R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

I highly doubt anyone will give you a free number to port when others are asking where to buy a number to port LMAO
There are people who might have numbers lying around willing to help. I helped someone once. So it's not a rarity.

Why is sdcomputers4less under warning? I have consistently bought from him and never once had issue of bad port number. I am talking about buying 4 numbers in a go sometimes and never faced any issue with porting those numbers. Has always been flawless. And, do not start that I am somehow related or that kind of crap. Its out of respect for that guy that I am writing this post. Every order has been processed within 30 minutes and maximum he took once was 90 minutes. So, for me, the experience has always been pretty smooth.
I bought three straight port numbers from this seller. All worked too, got them fast as well.

one thing i just thought of...

instead of buying $95 of cards to make it to 6 months and unlocking phone...couldn't you just go on ebay and buy an unlock code? or is that not a thing anymore?

Can I port out the cricket line as soon as I activate it? I'm going to use the phone for trade-in only.

That's not really a thing anymore, well at least for iPhone... It'll more than likely cost you between $100-$200 to get it unlocked.

You probably could. No point of activating it, but just to complete the terms and condition. I guess you could activate it, enter in someone's referral to help them out, change your plan from $60 to $30/mo for 2gb/mo plan and toss the SIM. Wink

I personally would activate it just to be safe since you're getting the $200 discount because of port-in discount. Not sure in the terms and condition if Cricket could ever charge you the $200 for failure to complete the port-in activation.

As for recurring charges, as long as auto-pay is off and no credit card linked to account, you'll be good to go. Just activate and toss the SIM or leave it in the phone to use for a month until the $60 plan runs out.
Ok will do it. I already have the NET10 and TracFone also arrived. Have to return those I guess

That sucks.. return is at your own cost if I remember correctly. I just shipped one to Apple (phobio) for trade-in from Net10 today. Hopefully won't have any issues with the trade in to get $205 gift card from Apple to use for future products.

You can probably activate without opening the iPhone SE... But no, you can't unlock it just sitting in the box and not paying 6 month worth of service (well, $60 gets you 2 mo of 2gb/mo svc + 4 mo on your own, get $25 from referral to supplement future months).

Your phone must be active on Cricket, at least initially by inserting the sim card so Cricket will register it as being used and the sim card cannot be in any device otherwise it would reset the unlock countdown clock.
Wait, I currently have the box unopened with the SIM in an old phone. The countdown is ticking okay?

Is it ticking? I honestly don't know if it works that way or not.. but if it shows up in your account under Account Settings and Unlock phone - Get code> section with the countdown timer, then I guess you're all set.

how are you calculating $95 of prepaid cards to get it unlocked? Using the Target deal, wouldn't it come out to 3 $30 cards? $60 for the first two months, $5 if you get the $25 referral bouns, only 3 months left. $90. And if as someone said gets unlocked after 175 days you don't even need the 6th month so only $60 of target deal prepaid card. Is my math correct?

30 month for 6 months is 180. Paid 60 up front. $25 referral credit, plus 95 i bought is $120. 120 plus 60 already paid is 180

$60 = 60 days that came with the phone
$25 referral + $5 = 30 days
$90 (depending on where you get the cards or form of payment...) = 90 days

Can someone who already has a cricket account take this new phone and put their sim in it and it will work on their account still locked for 6 months?
