You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.
It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.
Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.
back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

If I move on without activation, will I be charged full price?
Should I buy a number off ebay to replace the bad number? In this case, I need to chat with Cricket CS.
So far I don't think anyone has claimed that they were charged full price for failing to activate their phones / sims cards.
CS can't "replace the bad number" for you. The best they can do is to cancel your order and let you place another one.
I did however receive 2 separate emails asking for account number and pin. I updated and it said the transfer is delayed. I spoke to a chat specialist and he said everything is good and I can expect the devices shipped tomorrow.
I am Dev and I am trying to order an iPhone, I already placed the order on that site once and I am trying to do it the second time. For some reason at the checkout, it states that the promotional devices are only available for two lines. I don't know how people are doing it for multiple times.
EDIT: Both gone.
I have apparently found a way with the address limitation of only two per household.
The first time I used my regular hand typed address. I subsequently tried to change my address various ways and it was always denied.
This time however I payed with APPLE PAY. It mimic'd my address as the exact same way as my first order. However on this order, it shockingly enough went through! Who knows, the may cancel it as it was ordered under the same email address as my past order and account. So we'll see. Just a heads up!
Oh and don't forget to wait on the cart page for the $20 coupon.

Oh a happy note, Cricket offered me a 20 dollar coupon to be added to my order. Did anyone else get that?
Woot!!!
