R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Thanks I sent it to my neighbor. I thought billing address had to match shipping address but I guess not.

You can do it from the app or from the Cricket website. If you're on the website, login, go to Cricket Xtras at the bottom, then refer a friend - then you'll hit "have a referral code?" and enter your code there. This is the one that was emailed to you.
Thanks. I don't see it anywhere in the app or the mobile website.

How long does it take to know if it works or not? Waiting for an update. TIA!
Have you noticed the confirmation email from phobio states "version 256G" while apple website does not ask anything when you initiate the trade in. I guess Phobio is a shitty company doing these dirty tricks.

Was wondering why this deal hasn't sold out after many days while the iPhone 8 at same price about a month ago went OOS in a day. Here are some reasons I could think of:

1. iPhone 8 surprisingly fetches better trade-in value than iPhone SE 2020 (T-Mobile), despite the SE specs being superior. (They seem to base it off launch price)

2. Initial iPhone 8 deal was for 128Gb variant @ $50, SE is for 64Gb @ $50.

3. It could be just that the are more stocks of SE.

4. SD community has been seeing a lot of mobile phone deals lately, from Samsung and Google Fi - probably people already bought some of them.

Thanks for reading! Smilie

I think it's just because the iPhone SE was just released not too long ago and cricket got rid of whatever iPhone 8's they had left, which were not many.

I was waiting for a second iPhone 8 deal but it looks like we won't get it.

Now the question is if I should trade the 8 to T-Mobile for the 12 mini with 24 bill credits or keep waiting on Costco and hope they come out with a big rebate offer

Limit two per household, are you guys just placing separate orders? If I try to order two lines together, it only applies discount to one line

Got my 2 phones yesterday

Can't get past two devices per household limit -- trying to order 2 more under family member's name and modified address to use $20 off cart promo and $25 Chase Offer
Tried again just now and was able to get through -- added a direction to my address (123 Name St to 123 W Name St) so hopefully it comes here

$20 off cart promo still works and family member had $25 Chase Offer

Line 1:
Apple iPhone SE $249.99
Color: (PRODUCT) RED
Bring Your Number Discount -$200.00
Unlimited Cricket More $60.00

Line 2:
Apple iPhone SE $249.99
Color: (PRODUCT) RED
Bring Your Number Discount -$200.00
Unlimited Cricket More $60.00
Group Save Discount -$30.00

Shipping Free
Subtotal $189.98
Take 20 Coupon -$20.00
Sales Tax $10.00
Total Paid Today $179.98

Ported lines from Tello since I had Sprint phones/sims:
$5 plan (100min/free text/no data) -15% promo "15OFFAFF" = $4.25 + tax = $5.09 paid

Used a referral code to get $10 Tello Dollars -- used that $10 credit to create 2x lines for $5 each (no tax)

How fast was the process with getting the line from Tello? I have sprint sims and an unlocked phone for an imei. Was it a flat $5.00 for the line or any other fees required?

Mine was instant, after adding imei and sim info to website. It was 5 and taxes and you can get a referral code and 15 percent code online. Also don't even need to insert sim into phone.

Got the lines last night but Cric checkout stopped working so I waited until morning

You can get a new Tello number instantly -- port out info is given in your online account

Not sure if there's a port out delay but you can wait an hour if you want to -- Tello account number is the same for all family lines

Paid for 1st line:
$5 plan (100min/free text/no data) -15% promo "15OFFAFF" = $4.25 + tax = $5.09

2nd & 3rd lines were free using $10 Tello Dollars -- $5 each no tax

Created account and paid for 1st line -- added single family line which used $5 credit then added another single family line which used remaining $5 credit (3rd line took an hour to come probably a manual review)

Ok thanks. I may just go this route to avoid any issues with eBay sellers. I've read some people have had issues with disappearing sellers not responding after port issues.

Yes. Sprint is kinda weird in that the SIM becomes tied to the phone so you can't SIM swap - and they are reusable. I just reactivated an old SE I had just ported out, got a new # with no issue on the same SIM. Definitely pays to have old Sprint phones for these deals!
