OP works for eBay? Seems like a trick to get us to sign up early, been putting this off and will probably just sign up on the 12/27. That damn reminder message in the blue box is freaking annoying

I just moved under Managed Payments and hate it as a seller.

Now eBay immediately takes 10% for the sale and another 2.5% for processing fees. So 12.5% total. This is actually a little less than eBay and PayPal combined.

Until you realize that eBay is also charging the seller 12.5% from the sales tax that the person buying the item paid for "processing the tax" as well. Which I'm pretty sure is illegal since I highly doubt eBay is paying a 12.5% processing fee themselves. They're making a small profit off the seller when the buyer pays sales tax. How can they charge me a fee to process money I never received and make a profit doing that?

So if I sell something for $1,000 eBay collects $125 for the sale from the seller at $12.5% immediately. If the buyer also pays 9.5% sales tax ($95) then as the seller you pay an additional 12.5% fee on the buyer's sales tax, which never actually touched your account ($11.88) for $136.88 total in seller fees to eBay. So it's more like 13.7% disguised at 12.5%. Super misleading.

On top of this you don't get access to your money immediately. If I get paid from a buyer on Friday. It doesn't even start to transfer to my bank account until Tuesday since it's "processing". Then it finally hits my bank Thursday or Friday because the bank now needs to process it. That's 6-7 days from the buyer sending me the money until I have access to it.

Meanwhile I still have to ship the item to the buyer as soon as the payment comes in. Since it's not the buyer holding up the payment. I usually ship next day after getting paid. eBay claims the payment is guaranteed once they accept it so it's safe to ship. But I don't trust them at all.

Overall I'm pissed that I can't stay with PayPal. Which is a sentence I never thought I'd type lol. Good luck all!

Right!! 15$ ?! Are they gonna lower their final values fee ? Sucks there's no competition to eBay .. offer up I guess for high dollar items
There are plenty; here are some eBay alternatives:
Fashion: Poshmark.com [Poshmark.com]
Cellphones: Swappa.com [Swappa.com]
Store Alternatives: eBid.net [eBid.net]
General Items: Bonanza.com , eCrater.com [ecrater.com] , Mercari.com [Mercari.com]

Perfect time to mirror-list your items in those sites with lower prices than your usual eBay listing.
eBay need healthy competitors. >(

Is eBay subject to the same rules as banks then? I really don't like the idea of them having direct access to my banking info. All they need is one data "accident" and millions of people's accounts and credit get thrown into chaos. The idea of them sitting on payments for the float sucks too.

Cali is regulation-happy, maybe someone out there can do a little "well if you're going to act like a bank you need to do this" or maybe it's a federal thing. Not my area.

Would make for a good article by some CPA-type.

FYI -I have a basic selling plan (10+ years experience), no business EIN number or anything professional - I did not get the coupon linky.

I don't have a business number, because I want to be able to collect unemployment from my primary job when times get rough.

Is this for their managed payments or whatever it's called? If so, they promised me $50 to switch back in June. Still no payment. Call them every month like clockwork... they apologize and say they will get it taken care of right away... guess what? On track to call them next month.

Your check is in the mail. 😁

I gave my "business" EIN number. I'll see if they approve. I only sell my used stuff and not actually a business. But I do not want to give out my social. Even PayPal doesn't have my social

I was required to give my EIN and social. How did you get around that? I couldn't submit without giving my social. Ebay forced me into managed payments or I could no longer list. Such pleasant people.

Managed payment stinks. Takes 3 days to get money and Friday to Sunday sales don't even get sent to bank until Tuesday, and by meaning sent it takes another three days os usually by Thursday or Friday you get money from last 3 day weekend sales. I had not received claim from customer, took 5 weeks to settle, and money wqs deducted as soon as customer filed a case. With Paypal, they would settle it and not hold my money cause I was preferred customer. They'd simply let me know how many cases were opened and they took care of it without my involvement and not hold up my money

I believe Amazon has been doing this for years, for those that sell on Amazon. This is the new unfortunate norm. I would recommend setting up an alternative checking account for such a situation. I did this a number of years ago because my employer went to a system called concur for paying expense reports. I didn't totally trust that, and I can see how it could be handy for this too.

Paypal and others like Square don't send 1099s unless you gross more than $20K/yr and more than a few hundred transactions (I don't recall the exact number). I've been selling on ebay since 1997 and have never been sent one and have sold upwards of $10K/yr sometimes.

Edit: here's the link

https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthe...ent-faq729

PayPal will track the payment volume of your account(s) to check whether your payment volume exceeds both of these levels in a calendar year:

$20,000 USD in gross payment volume from sales of goods or services in a single calendar year
200 payments for goods or services in the same year*
Thanks. I just dunno why this year they needed one of these things; social security card, pay stub, third party tax return, or W-2.

I reluctantly sent them my W-2 because that's all I had on me, but I felt violated.
