Not bad, has band 66, so that's a plus for TMobile users and good specs for the price.

I take it this is a good upgrade coming from a Galaxy S5 (Verizon)? My old boss was asking me to find him a good phone deal. I told him probably anything being made now will be better than his current phone

T-Mobile users would want band 71 and for 5G you'd want 41. It'll work with 2, 4, 5, 12 and 66 but you're not going to get as good coverage.

1) It's not a 5g device 2) Band 66 is one of their newish bands over the last 4yrs which helps low freq signals. I'm constantly on 4 & 66 with my daily driver when I'm not in the city.

1) Never said it was, just thought it's useful information for T-Mobile users.
2) You're thinking of Band 71
https://www.t-mobile.com/support/...le-network

As you can see in the link, Band 66 is just an extension of 4 and uses higher frequencies 1700/2100 MHz. Band 71 is the newly implemented extended LTE coverage using frequency 600 MHz for better coverage.

Yes band 66 is an extension of 4, but it is also new on tmo. It wasn't implemented on any of their device until 4ish years ago as I stated. Band 71 travels farther than 66 but with less spectrum and is therefore slower. so regardless, my initial statement doesn't change the fact that having band 66 is a plus for tmobile users.

Not a nerd fight, more like average SDer discredits any phone deal over not having band 71. Millions of people happily use iPhone X, 8, and the regular Galaxy s8 without band 71. Band 71 is becoming the new HDMI joke at this point. Phone elitism is rampant on here...even though it's called Slickdeals. My wife is using a $75 G Stylus from brickseek, and either of us can't think of a single reason she'd want an s20 or iPhone 12.

Haha, I actually don't have a band 71 phone but it would definitively be high on my priority list if I were to buy one (though not a deal breaker). I don't know what kind of phone LG G Stylus is (google search found G4 Stylus and Stylo and various other ones) but sounds like a new phone would be a huge upgrade for you. If you're anything like me and have kids and what not and do your best to take pictures/videos to capture your memories, a crappy phone can easily make you lose that shot or get you a pretty crappy picture. I'm also going to guess your LG regularly slows down or freezes up etc unless all you do is use it for "phone" purposes and not "smartphone" features like internet or app. That's just speaking from my experience with sub $150 phones.

Band 66 is a pretty common band and in fact, I've yet to see a relatively new phone that's missing it. I'm quite confident you thought of Band 71 especially since you said "low freq signals" but I'll just take you at your word.

For the record, Sony phones are notorious for missing out on bands and here's one that's over 3 years old with Band 66 on it (meaning it's been around for far longer than that).

On the other hand, even latest Sony phones (Xperia 5 II) do not have Band 71. It also took them 2 more years or something than other companies to get band 12.

I currently have an LG G7 ThinQ. Looking to upgrade but not in a hurry. Really would like a Samsung Note but I'm not willing to pay the price. Is this phone better than my phone?

G7 is better in almost every way except battery and Android OS version. If the battery is decent, I would stick with the G7 and wait for something else.

I agree with the other person. Stick with your LG G7. Not much of an upgrade.
