The i5 version is a pretty good deal. Thinking of buying it, then taking that 1660 Ti for myself, and give the recipient my 1050 Ti (minus the GPU cost). They are still on a 1st gen i5.

Hmmmm

In essence you're probably not going to do enough to notice the difference (6/6 and 8/8 with a 3k passmark difference). So save the money imo

Is this good for photo and video editing? More so focusing on photos as I haven't really gotten into video yet.

I was thinking of it from a gaming perspective.

i5 version has 6 cores, i7 has 8. Neither has Hyper Threading. Going from 6 to 8, for gaming, usually does not translate to big performance gains. The frequency will matter more. The i5 version also has the better GPU, although its only 1 model up.

If you need 8 cores and don't want to buy more storage the i7 might make more sense.

But for the person I have in mind for this PC to buy for, the i5 makes more sense. Especially when you tell them it's $140 cheaper for not a lot of actual gaming performance loss.

I am not much of gamer. Need it more for photo and video editing. Will make a difference?

I am not an expert on Video/Photo editing, but from all the CPU reviews I have watched over the years you want the most powerful CPU your budget will allow for. Which is why a lot of recommendations lately have been to go with a Ryzen CPU. 3600 is a good entry level CPU. 3700X and above get better, but at a price increase.

This article [gamersnexus.net] might help a bit, but really you should figure out what software you will be running and what type of workloads and check out CPU benchmarks that include them. Gamers Nexus is a good YouTube channel for this. There are many others as well.

But you get the best performance boost from RGB LEDs. You can squeeze 10-15% more IPC out of your CPU if the light from the LED hit's it just right.

LOL. I though I was the only one that hates all these RGB and LED all over the computer.

How much of an upgrade would this be compared to a I5 7600, 1080 TI and 16GB of Raw, 500 GB SSD? I was considering getting this computer as a gift for my younger brother but not sure how much of an upgrade it would be.

If it's the 7600K it would be quite a bit of improvement. The 7600K is 4/4 @3.8ghz, 4.2ghz turbo, while the 9400F is 6/6 @2.9ghz, 4.1ghz turbo. The GPU will be a serious drop, as the 1080ti was only one generation behind, it was in a whole other league than the 1660ti/1060ti.

Overall, i'd say don't do it. Your 1080ti is leaps and bounds ahead of the 1660ti. The least I would say, if you wanted to "upgrade", would be a RTX 2060. Even then i'd be a hard sell.
