Bought a similar deal from Target a couple weeks ago. I love this thing. A couple tips: DO NOT use anything other than PURE WATER to carbonate. Carbonating anything other than straight, unflavored water (even fruit infused water) will result in a super fizzy mess and a nozzle that will harbor bacteria. There is no advantage to flavoring before carbonation. Also, for fizzier drinks, use very, very cold water. Additional flavoring syrups from other brands like Mio or other water additives work great too, just don't use anything powdered unless you dissolve it in water first.

It's very easy to refill canisters yourself with dry ice and save a LOT of money.
Dry ice sells for $2-3 a pound at grocery store. You need about 1.5lbs to fully fill the canister.
Wear gloves!
Make sure canister is empty by pressing release valve on top of the bottle with your finger. Take a wrench and unscrew the brass valve from canister, take note not to lose the black rubber washer. Throw 1.5lbs of dry ice into a blender to turn it into powder. Attached a funnel to canister with masking tape. Pour dry ice into canister, leave couple inches from top for valve. Screw in valve and tighten with wrench, don't over tighten it won't unscrew under pressure. Let the canister sit for 2-3 hours in warm temperature for ice to turn to co2. Enjoy your fizzy pop!

Caution on buying from Amazon if you are not sure that you will keep the unit. Because of compressed CO2 cylinder, AMAZON will not take it back. Read the reviews on Amazon - you have been warned.

My family was going through a few bottles a day and were going through these cylinders almost weekly. At $15 an exchange it was getting expensive. Bought an adapter ($50) and a 5 lbs co2 cylinder (~$60) on Amazon and that was a game changer. The 5 lbs is about 5-6x the size of the cylinder the soda maker comes with and only cost $20 to exchange locally at a paintball store or aquaponics store. Only downside of this conversion that it takes significantly more space. Pretty happy with it overall after the conversion though! Happy slickdeals

Any dangers of exceeding pressure capacity of the cylinder?

Not that I can think of. I fill them to the brim with powder co2. Which is about twice it's label capacity. Been working fine for years. If you want to be careful, use scale and measure exact same amount to the gram.

Or you can fill with dry ice. It is easy, costs less ( $7 for 3 canisters) and takes less space on counter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-a3pISQLQg

It has a long travel, you have to press it on the way down to carbonate enough. It takes some trails to get it right. Once you get it right, its all good. All reviews complains about not fizz enough are either stupid or do not know how to use the machine.

Yes it's very good advice to remember that I'd you are going the DIY route on the CO2 then you *must* use food grade.
