What do you mean by "follow the number on the form"?

Twitter team told me I could get the Pixel 4a 5G deal with that new line. Then they went radio silent on me for a long time.
So I brought up chat in the T-Mobile app. They initially said I could do the free Pixel 4a 5G deal (with add a line and trade-in). But then they later said that to get the Pixel 4a 5G for free, it would have needed to have been done at the time of adding the line. They told me though that I could get 50% off the Pixel 4a 5G without a trade-in because I added a line.
That didn't really make sense to me. If I needed to add the Pixel at the time of adding the line to get it for 100% off, I don't get how I could get 50% without a trade.....
Is he just off his rocker? Anyone been particularly successful with one medium or another?
My long-game goal here is to keep the phone I activated with BYOD on that new free line but get the Pixel 4a 5G associated with one of my other lines. Am I just swinging at nothing?
Can someone who've done similar rebate at Costco in the past confirm if it's ok for the IMEI# on Costco's rebate info page (that they gave when activated line) does not need match the MEI# when we fill out the actual rebate?? I would imagine quite a few people changed their mind and use a different phone then the one they told Costco.
And when I port in a number later on, I'd still qualify for the $100 rebate.
Not sure if I got lucky or this is just a standard deal. BTW, I'm have T-Mobile ONE.
It was crowded at Costco, rep was busy and didn't have time to fill the IMEI# on the redemption form. So now I have no idea which Control number goes with which IMEI/line (or phone number).
