lol 27000k -- for when you really need that blinding light.

in seriousness though, the traversal II is nice, pretty flat and has warm-on-dim feature and 1000 lumens

edit: actually, these are great. I have a house with ceilings that are literally the boards of the floor upstairs (old style exposed t&g) and these are only 1" thick and can surface mount. ordering 40.

there's an Amazon deal on a pack of 24 for $95, but they have terrible reviews. hopefully the Home Depot ones work better. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKTGGP4/
I did a lot of research recently before buying and installing some canless lights. The Amazon brands that I noticed seem to be slightly better than the standard chinesium were Torchstar and Ensenior. I bought and installed six Ensenior canless down lights and have been very happy. I used to think that Home Depot offered more established brand recognition in exchange for the premium price, but I've seen Feit get terrible reviews on various LED products, so what's even the point? Home Depot and its suppliers are also just rebranding the same stuff as everyone else, might as well save 25% and two trips to the store.

Edit: here's a good deal on the ones I used. I paid like $55 for six. Swear I'm not a shill and I'm not getting anything from linking- just someone who has minor experience with this one product. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08BKPTTG2/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A61CMNCK0JTGW&psc=1&th=1

thanks for the tips! I actually bought like 50 of these from Amazon warehouse for under $2 each:

Sunco Lighting 24 Pack 5 Inch / 6 Inch Flush Mount Disk LED Downlight, 15W=100W, 2700K Soft White, 1050LM, Dimmable, Hardwire 4/6" Junction Box, Recessed Retrofit Ceiling Fixture https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKT538R/

these generally have terrible reviews, but it's for a house I'm selling, so I'm not too concerned. I'll probably return the HD ones.

Modern LED lighting should be 100lm+/Watt (eg. 1000lm+ @ 10W).

Home Depot has recessed lights for $3.50

Not sure if these are any good, but at $3.50 a pop, I'm willing to give it a shot!

Nice find... just picked up 10 to try and replace some existing "old construction" recessed lights that weren't sitting flush with the ceiling after many years.

For anyone interested, these are NOT your typical LED recessed light inserts that screw into existing cans, these are meant for new installations of a flush mount LED light.

I have some old recessed cans that I don't like. Could I remove the cans and fit these in the same hole? Sorry, I'm new to this (just bought a house and trying to make some upgrades).

Really depends on the type of can you have (new construction vs. existing construction). New construction is nailed/screwed to the ceiling joist (wood), and the nail/screw are not accessible from the hole because the can blocks it. Existing construction will usually be held on with springs and retaining clips that grab the tops side of the ceiling sheet rock.

In short, existing construction cans can usually be coerced out, but new construction will require getting access to the nails/screws holding the recessed lighting frame to the wood.

Good luck...

You can replace them with these, you would need to remove the can and wire these in. They also sell a retrofit which screws into the existing light socket. Much easier if the can is already there. Same look.

Might check tho od of this to see if it covers as much as the old trim, or might need some paint. Usually 3 or 4 screws hold the liner of the can in. Remove those and pull the liner out, open the junction box and disconnect the flex, add a wire from the jbox to this lights jbox. No need to remove the housing, the spring clips should engage on it.
