this has bee $349 at HD all month long (without the stand)

The 779 is the same saw for $200 less than the 780, plus you get the mobile stand. For $60-80 you can add the light (which most people don't even use) to make it the same exact saw. This is a good deal.

If you want to get any sort of angle without the full table saw setup, then a miter saw.

I have this one and love the dual bevel and sliding options. You can get cheaper saws, but they may not have both.

The stand isn't bad. Used it for a while until I used my saw to build myself a woodworking table with a flip top to house the miter saw underneath.

Got any specs on the table you built? I've been hunting for one that I can put in my shed for a while but nothing has sold me yet.

Table saw; but also consider the lowly circular saw.

Miter saws are really only for cross cuts, for example cutting the end off a 2x4, or cutting moulding or flooring to the right length. You can also cut angles which is handy for crown molding or angled flooring or decks.

Portable table saws do better at rip cuts than cross cuts for larger pieces, meaning cutting a length of wood into thinner pieces. For example, a 2x4 into a 2x2. Yes you can also cut the off the ends like with a miter saw, but really only with smaller pieces.

Circular saws get a bad rap. They are more capable then most people realize. I'm using mine more and more. Just sold my miter saw. For my work a circular saw or table saw sled was better. FWIW my table saw is a smaller Dewalt.

The foureyes channel on YouTube just did a segment on miter saws. IMO the only reason to have one is to cut molding or angled flooring, or certain other specialty cuts most people don't deal with. Maybe precision cuts on long sections of 4x4 or 6x6.

Good set of jigs can go a long way with a circular saw too.

This is a killer deal if you are a veteran, since the 10% discount stacks.

You can also pick up some Lowes GC at 10% off and drop the cost even further.

Sure I'll try to send some photos later. Mainly it's an 8x4 birch plywood top for the inserts. 8x4x 1/2 regular ply for the top and bottom. 3 2x4s for the feet so that the middle one could slide down to level the table on my uneven backyard. Rockler stop buttons, some heavy duty casters on Amazon, a auto vacuuming switch with a manual ON for the vacuum surge protector thing.

Just remember to account for the door width of your shed if you want to move it in and out 😅

Those aren't extra goodies, they come standard in the box with the saw.
Any idea which blade comes with it? There has been a lot of confusion on this model apparently.

It's not just a light, it's an alignment tool for where the blade cuts. Not prone to moving like laser.

Correct. Kerf light is better than a laser. Although I will still argue that most won't use at after the new tool 'honeymoon' phase.
