Agreed not a great deal. The benchmarks so far indicate that 16GB may be unnecessary with the efficiency of the new chip.

I ordered on the 28th, and I don't have a delivery ETA at all, just say "backordered". How are people getting delivery estimates?

$899 Air.

Ordered 8gb/256gb on Nov 26 and I never got a delivery estimate. I checked the order status on the Adorama site a couple days ago and noticed the status changed from Backordered to Processing, In Progress - we're preparing your order for shipment. Finally a change.

Still haven't got any delivery estimate emails from them. Hopefully it'll ship soonish.

The fact that you need to ask this question tells me that you don't need an Intel to do whatever you need to do with a Macbook. If you are just a general user or content creator then an upgrade to a M1 would be a nice and decent upgrade just for the battery life alone. I would not get an i9 because you probably don't need that sort of performance for what you do and you have to have some very specific needs in order to even consider it. So why are you considering it and what do you mostly do with the Macbook? Just an FYI, I have multiple Macbooks and PCs (literally probably a dozen right now) and I do microsoldering and component level repairs on Macbooks especially. My day job is as a software engineer/data scientist and the repair stuff is just for fun and to help out locals when they spill liquids on their stuff.

I paid $9xx for an open box alienware gaming laptop back in 2017 and traded it for the MBR. Pretty much at the breakeven point now and find a replacement at good price. Main use is for browsing and some microsoft programs, nothing heavy duty. There are no issues with current MBR and it performs well still.

I tend to be conservative when it comes to purchasing computers and only when performance becomes a hinderance do I look to replace what I currently have and I'm getting close to that point after 3-4 years of the same desktop/laptop setup. Anyhow, I, like you, was able to find a Macbook Pro M1 at Best Buy at a "Satisfactory" level which dropped the price down to like $960. So yeah, I picked it up and I love the battery life. There are compatibility issues with some apps and my USB-C monitor doesn't work with it, even using the latest 11.1. So yeah there are some issues but for light tasks and some 3D modeling it works well and battery lasts two days of usage.
