My experience with backlit keyboards is they wash out on white or silver laptops due to the screen reflecting off of the keys. Opt for the Fog Blue to minimize.
Add TOUCH, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD -- The configuration comes to 609, Apply coupon SMBHOL10 to bring down the total to $548.

Coupon SMBHOL10 works for $599 or more.

Paypal Chase offer gives 5% cashback too !!
Wow $400 for Ryzen 7 4700U + FHD screen + WiFi 6 (just $10 for the WiFi upgrade, so why not futureproof it), it's gotta be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest ever for that combo.

A pretty futureproof buy, and I think the RAM and SSD are replaceable so if you need to do it now, or in the future, it's a perfect base to start with.

Anyone know battery management software that works for this laptop? Seems like HP makes it only for their business laptops

a strange problem:
machine 1, newly installed windows 10
when using the power supply (either original charger or usb-c charger), there is a static sound when you touch the touchpad, no such sound if you don't touch or on battery

machine 2, Linux Mint
no such sound whether on power supply or battery
I got the same "static"/buzz sound from the left side of the laptop(under the "A", "S", … keys) when it's on power supply too(as soon as I removed the power cord from the laptop, the sound disappeared right away)! No matter I use the touchpad or not, very annoying, did I get a defective laptop?? Could it be a bad capacitor or fan?

I haven't tried to rebuild the system for Linux.

Last year I was using a brand new Dell Vostro from work and had the same issue when charging, after a few days and charges the noise went away, but in that case the noise was coming from the laptop or the battery not the charger.
I remember In the old days, after assembling and testing a system you had to run a burn-in for 48 hours or more before shipping to the customers.

I heard the static sound from the left side of the laptop(under the "A", "S", … keys), did you mean it's a QC problem and I got a defective one? I have run the laptop for more than two days.

Did you notice the static sound when it was on Windows 10 before you rebuilt the machine #2 for Linux Mint? I wonder if you might get one good laptop with one bad. I bought one and I got the static sound too.

Personally I think that it could be the battery, poor connections or internal electronics responsible for charging the battery, again it may go away in a few days or get worse. Sure it's a QC issue, these laptops were assemble and tested in relatively short time and they don't really care about QC but to make a sale and ship it on time.

I was the first or one of the first to point this out here and in the HP Ryzen 5 Walmart thread (basically identical to this one)... also when powered off and plugged in, the laptop squeals/screeches. See if yours does this.

When it's powered off and plugged in, or when it's poweron with lip closed and plugged in, I no longer hear the static sounds, but stable circuit sound(which I think normal and acceptable). But when I used the laptop, just low profile use like browsing, I could clearly hear the static sound in a quiet room.

Is this OK or should we return? I found an option for about $50 HP 3-year warranty they offer, wonder if it's necessary if I decide to keep the laptop. Other than this static sound, the laptop is great for the price, I especially like the fingerprint feature.

I wish someone posted this when we jumped on this deal.
Again the stock photo showing difference is terrible. I would picked up a fog blue in a heart beat if knowing white uses a silver keyboard.

Worst $10 saved. Frown
Actually, I remember the pictures were pretty clear when you switch different colors. The white option show silver keyboard, same as silver. I personally prefer silver body with black keys with backlit, same as Apple notebooks.

HP has silver keyboard for many years, people should have known the drawback, and it has been a pretty common complaint since they adopted this color choice. They still make it so probably the majority of people don't care about it.

use code: HPSA33 to get it for $59. It's a really good deal if you are keeping the laptop for a long time. At the end of 3 yr if you don't use it, you can actually file for a refund. So it's practically free in that case.

Can you purchase this after you've already received the laptop?

I agree. 59$ for 3 years with accidental warranty is great. Where did you find the details on requesting refund if we don't claim in 3 years.

Yes. warranty starts on date of shipping. So that means most of us already given up half month of the warranty since we all have to wait for all the delays since the day it was purchased
