Just a reminder if you have a old Windows 7/8 key you can just download and install Windows 10 using the old key.
This is true. I did it just yesterday. Had an older computer running 7 pro. Free upgrade to 10 pro thru MS validation.

FYI, for everyone considering doing this:

1. The product code is TOTALLY valid - Microsoft verified it, it's legit, legal, authentic, and I wasn't really worried about it given it was from PCWorld.

2. Upgrading from Home is not necessarily a quick process - I encountered a "server glitch" according to the rep that finally fixed my problem. He was able to transition me to Pro, but recommended that any time you get a full retail license, to do a full O/S reinstall from scratch for optimal outcome. I will probably do this anyway in the next few days, because I'm sure Microsoft left some registry garbage and bloat in the upgrade process. Basically, a clean slate is usually best.

Some may disagree, and say upgrading is cake, but it wasn't, at all, for me. Maybe I just got unlucky.
Thanks a lot for your detailed process!

Isnt win 10 (any edition) free? From MS website. It will be fully functional except 'activate windows' watermark on the right-bottom. If that's ok, then why bother for code?
At some point you won't get any security updates

If I have an old PC that I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 but no longer use, can I transfer that key to a different PC for a clean install?

Windows home for $10 less (Thanks jone2an for the windows home deal)
https://slickdeals.net/f/14627833-windows-10-home-pcworld-software-store-back-again-29-99
$10 less but that is an OEM license. This Pro version is retail, meaning that you can reuse the license on other computers if you ever need to switch machines

The original PC World post has a few more details on this deal :
https://www.pcworld.com/article/3...t-off.html

"This offer, good through November, is for a Microsoft-licensed retail version of Windows 10 Pro, and not an OEM version."

"PCWorld's partner, Cleverbridge, is able to secure great discounts by going directly to software vendors and publishers, buying licenses in bulk, and then working with safe, secure brands (like PCWorld) to sell the software directly to consumers. Please note this deal is for an unlimited lifetime license for a single PC."

So, anyone have any experience with Cleverbridge ? I'm inclined to think this sounds like a great way to end up with either a Volume or gray market license key - which may work great forever, or may not. =)

$5 or less on eBay. Ends up always being free when eBay cancels it afterward anyway. By then you usually already have received the code lol.
even less if you get win7 and upgrade to 10

i don't think you will have a problem, especially if the old pc has not been active for a long time.

We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. (0x803fa067)

I have Pro on my PC from my windows 8 pro key that upgraded to 10 pro. Like others mentioned, trying to get bitlocking on my laptop, which has 10 home.
