This is a solid deal. Don't be frightened by all the comments on every desktop deal from people that need this component or that component upgraded because they are planning to map the human genome on a $500 desktop. Spoiler alert - They won't.

700W? Seriously, it is not like you are going to install a 750+ dollar graphics board in a machine like this imo. You can get away with 450-500 W with a low power 1660 TI. Less if you drop down to a 1050 Ti. If you want to run high end gaming at max res, then one should not be buying something like this imo and should look to someone like Dell, MSI or IBuyPower for pre-builts for gaming.

My 2 cents.

Biggest question is whether the PSU is standard. a lot times OEMs will use proprietary PSU or PSU connectors to mobo, making upgrades impossible.
What if I'm only interested in upgrading ram/ssd with this machine?

Just ordered this computer for my mom on Monday and it was ~60 more.... I looked up Staples' price match policy and it says this: "We don't price match competitors' or our own local or special events (e.g., grand opening, anniversary, clearance, timed sales or liquidation sales, "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" sales)."

Does that mean I should buy this one and return the one that's supposed to arrive today?

Call a customer rep. & explain the situation 1st, imo. I have found Staples to be pretty good in this regard with their own price match by crediting your card with the difference. Then, you always have the option of returning the original machine.

Well, if the comment about having only a 180w power supply is true, you will need to upgrade that to at least a 500w supply depending on the card (honestly i would start at the 700w range). Then, you need to have the space available in the case, and HP typically uses a custom size called uATX thats between a micro atx and Atx, so you're stuck using physically smaller graphics card (like a "mini" variant). You *may* be able to fit one with dual fans but it will be close.

FWIW, My gaming Pavilion from 2 years ago came with a proprietary PSU and MOBO. It came with a 400'ish watt PSU, I can't recall the exact W. But I was able to install a stronger Ryzen 5 2600 CPU and GPU RTX 2060 without needing to change the PSU.

HP - Pavilion Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 5 2400G - 8GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB - 1TB HDD 128GB SSD - Black

A 75 watt Nvidia 1650 would run on this PSU and be fine for 1080p Fortnite type gaming.

sorry slick deals broke the link just copy and paste
That picture shows a mini sized PSU, not standard ATX. More importantly, the picture doesn't show the PSU connection to the mobo. That's where HP tends to use proprietary connectors, making it difficult to swap in an aftermarket PSU with standard ATX connectors to the mobo.

The inlaws bought this as part of the BF/CM deals; I just texted the FIL to let him know. He goes, "well that sucks, what the crap?!"

lol

He said he's going to try talking to a rep to see about getting credited back the difference or he'll return/rebuy.
