I find absolutely insane that we can buy what is basically a full home theater setup for less than a modern flagship phone
This is a great perspective
Let's not forget the fact that with a setup like this it might take 10-12 years of the audio company's progressing the tech far enough for you to consider upgrading, but with phones, people are on average getting a new one every 2 years.

I will say though that it would probably take me more than 12 years to get as many hours of use out of my home theater system as I get out of my phone in 2 years.
But it is astounding that smart phones cost more than a system like this.

So if we use dollar/hour as measurement would it equal out? .. then there's also depreciation

Most people that buy flagship phones don't even command the level of tech in them, much less need it. You can do just fine for years to come still on say, an iphone SE (1st gen), and can still get a new one for $100.
Is this worth getting or is it better to get a system with Atmos like the costco one? The receiver I purchased already supports Atmos.
IMO, if you have right ceiling and distance from your screen to seating and all other dynamics aligned, then I would suggest to get 625FA's set from Costco.
Let's say you have a tilted ceiling or some other viewing distance issues, you can get these. I really want to say that for atmos to work there are just so many things to fall in place(imo).
If you are in budget you can opt for these. If you can stretch it and you are an avid listener or movie watcher, I suggest you to consider RP line, with that RP-8000F's are really good imo. If you think your ceiling is right, then RP-280FA's are good choice.
One of my buddies has a simple setup with R-610's bundle, it sounded amazing the first few times, then I heard the RP line, there was so much improvement over the sound quality. This opinion may vary from person to person.
