If you are not planning to pay the monthly service stay away from these! They are awful as a stand-alone device as all the nicer features are pay to use.. forget a couple seconds of video, you don't even get a picture of what triggered a notification whenever there's movement!

Trust me... hard pass if you don't plan to pay the monthly service!

While above is true, this is a good price. If you need a monitored alarm system, Ring has the cheapest on the market(that I know of) $10 monthly or $100 yearly for the Protect Plus Plan. In addition to the alarm monitoring, any cameras you have in your house hold get all the features with 90 days recording and lifetime warranty as long as you keep the protect plan. Solid deal for $100 a year.

I don't think there is an internal battery on this unit as this doorbell is designed for wired. You might be confused with other model.

Bought this last year and while it does record most of the time, there's times where it's just a black screen being recorded and times where I try to talk to whoever is at the door while I'm at work and they can't hear me. Another issue is with how slow the app connects even when using rapid ring. By the time I can see who's at the door, the person there is gone already. It's frustrating and doesn't fulfill peace of mind, but it seems it's the best option on the market right now.

Avoid the pro. Regardless of what it states, there is an internal battery that can not be changed. It ends up going bad and the unit stops working properly. The other ring kind has lasted years and is well built. This one not so much. Mine lasted 2 years before it started giving issues

Wyze has a doorbell camera coming out for $30 bucks. Considering getting one of those
I don't think there is an internal battery on this unit as this doorbell is designed for wired. You might be confused with other model.

There is. I have mine taken apart. I even bought a battery to desolder and resolder on to it. Too much hassle, so its still sitting there.
You can see the instructions here

Youll see signs when battery is failing. Unit has to be rebooted constantly in order for it to work and then it stops working after a week or two.

For what it's worth I've had my ring pro for going on 2.5 years now with no issues. Maybe part of it has to do if your transformer is just barely within the acceptable range which causes extra battery strain?

I can confirm the issue with the internal battery. The wired power alone is not enough to fully power the unit, as my 4 year old unit, while still works during the day, will disconnect from WI-FI at night due to increased power consumption needed for night vision and then need to be reconnected via the app to the network in the morning. I finally give up and bought the $170 bundle during BF to replace the aging unit.

I have had my Pro for around a year and 0 issues. They added a new feature where you get a screenshot on the notification of doorbell. If I don't have good cell service connecting to the live feed is slow so this helped a ton to at least see who is at the door. The base monthly fee is only $3 if you have just the doorbell I believe. I would definitely recommend it. The battery issue could be a underpowered power supply that feeds the doorbell wiring.

I can attest to the Ring Pro issue. Installed it from a friend and it worked for about 5 minute before dying. CS said the internal battery had to charge. After 2 days she returned it and I helped her install the Ring 3 and it's been fine. This was 3 weeks ago. I would stay away, even at this price.

Thanks for the link. This is new to me. I wonder why wired doorbell still requires battery? Perhaps to keep some information intake in case of stolen? I also read that there are possibly several different batches or update to this model although there are no official version variances available. I bought my doorbell pro from Costco less than a year. So far I haven't notice any issues. I purchased transformer from ring.

The Pro may require you to change your transformer before you get enough power to power it. The other Ring doorbells have replaceable, rechargeable batteries where you don't need wired connection. FYI.

This is exactly the case. Hardly any houses have an adequate powered doorbell transformer already, so you need to replace that when you install the wired Pro doorbell for it to not drain the internal battery.

When I installed my ring pro, I had to install the transformer adapter. I believe that adapter is a boost regulator that helps increase the voltage so the doorbell gets the right voltage. However, if your existing transformer is already outputting too low of a voltage to begin with, the adapter wouldn't be able to get the right voltage and hence current needed.

If you have the ring protect plus plan, this issue would be covered under warranty as long as you have the plan.

Exactly what I did and have zero issues since last BF that I purchased it. Video footage always starts even before the person reaching as far as I saw in my records.
