a7S = better for video (flip screen / new, better menu)
a7C = compact version of the a7iii in the a6000/6400/6600 body style (no limit on recording time / flip screen / single SD card slot)
If you are doing large format prints (greater than 16"x20" for example), or plan to do a lot of digital cropping then the higher resolution "r" series cameras are for you. However higher resolution also means worsened low light performance as the pixels get smaller to match the density.
The a7iii is a general use camera, it does everything well without making major sacrifices.

I think he's suggesting we remain perpetual students. Surely the edu discount balances out the thousands of dollars we would spend on tuition.
