- The XM4 have a bassier sound signature. The 700 are more mid-focused, though they aren't necessarily lacking in bass. Neither is the end word in sound quality, but they both do what they need to.
- ANC is slightly better on the XM4, but both are good enough that you likely won't notice. You're getting some of the best of the best here regardless.
- Under most circumstances, the 700 has much better call quality than the XM4, the exception being certain Microsoft Teams situations that require the purchase of the separate dongle.
- Both are very comfortable, though the XM4 tend to get hotter and sweatier. The 700 do seem a bit more prone to seal breaking with thick glasses than the XM4, so keep that in mind if you have thick acetate frames.
- Multipoint connection isn't perfect on either of them. The XM4 can be a bit stubborn about switching devices, but the 700 has strange and unfixable audio stuttering issues when connected to more than one device for a lot of folks (myself included, across multiple pairs). Bose can't seem to fix it.
- The XM4 technically have better battery life but they're both so long you'd be hard pressed to notice.
- The XM4 supports a few more codecs than the 700 if that's your thing.
- Audio delay is present in most situations for both sets (e.g. movies) (Edit: this may be related to the device that's being connected to. Regardless, neither supports APTX-LL, so it can be a crapshoot)
All held equal, I'd choose the XM4 myself. But they both have drawbacks and benefits.
One for me, one for my brother. Can't go wrong with direct from Bose.

At $212 they sound like a great price.

Hmm. My 700 doesnot seem having an audio delay though. I have been using it for gaming and movies and don't notice any issue.
The audio delay will have a lot to do with the version of Bluetooth that the device is connected to. Bluetooth 5 has eliminated a lot of latency

I bought the 700s and XM3s earlier this year to try both and this is more or less what I found as well with the XM3s. I ended up returning both because I didn't feel either were worth what I paid but I remember slightly preferring the 700s so I might get in on this now. As much as I like heavier bass I'd rather get the ones with more accurate sound and adjust an equalizer later.
