FYI, this is also $250 at the AAFES/NEX/CGX sites as well. Yes, $10 more but no tax.
Just a thought to anyone brand new to action cameras: if you're unsure you will even use a GoPro, perhaps consider one of the many knockoffs to try before investing in a GoPro. I say this while owning and endorsing a GoPro 8 and 7, but I've used them in mud, scuba, and tropical showers among others and would buy them again. Costco carried an ExploreOne action camera at around $30 in store, and I just saw one still in stock at a store I was visiting last month. There are many options online. They won't give you the same reliability, features, software usability, support and many others that a GoPro will, but that doesn't matter if you're not going to actually make use of it. I know plenty of people who have bought GoPros as expensive paperweights because they thought it seemed like something they would need, but their lifestyle was better suited to regular camera. If you are going to use it though, this is a great deal on a great action cam.
Dunno if it matters to anyone, but there are physical differences in size between the 8, 9, and Max which makes the accessories a consideration we need to make. For example, the Scuba Suit (waterproof housing) or the Floaty, etc. that they've been selling for the last 8 years will not work with the 9 or the Max. True, some of them will work with all three but a handful will not. I have the 5 Black with a good sized collection of gear so the 8 is what I would choose.

I use the 8 diving and it works well. I also used it hard wired for a 16 hour drive using time lapse and it worked great though it does get hot.
