Closely compared to Samsung Evo 500GB for same price. Also this is the lowest price it's even been on Amazon.

I'll trust your anecdotal testimony over benchmarks where the only differing factor was the SSD. Right.
Samsung is still considered the "gold standard". If it's the same price for the same capacity I'd pick the Samsung over any other.

Apparently, the WD black at 500gb has better performance than the 970evo. At other sizes though, it changes.

I just got the sn550 last week for $51.
How much better is this in comparison to the 550?

I believe it's a pretty significant difference as the SN550 is a cacheless dram Ssd and the SN750 does have. Read and write speeds are fairly faster as well.

Oh man you're breaking my heart with this info! I just realized I got the KEY30 $30 discount credit as well on this drive. So my net cost was only $21 and taxes. If I return and rebuy I won't get the $30 credit.
I intend to use this as a boot drive for a new PC build in doing after almost a decade.

Ps: I like your username. I own a mk7 GTI myself.

I know that heartache using a promotional credit on an item I ended up not wanting.

But yes, for a boot drive, i'd want an SSD with DRAM cache. Can I actually tell a difference? Probably not. Then again, I probably can't tell a difference in real world usage between an NVM.e SSD and a SATA SSD.

Damn. I guess I'll just live with the slower speeds and always think I should've spent the $10 more.

To be fair, unless you're doing massive file read/write you probably won't notice the few seconds difference here and there.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess it'll always be stuck in the back of my head but yeah I'm certainly not returning and buying this.

I just got one of these in an HP Omen pre-build (only way I could get a legit 3070, don't judge me), and it benchmarked in the top .5%.
