I want a Note for $200 or less. Doesn't have to be the newest one.

iphone 6s released on Sept 2015 is listed as trade-in for $115 while Samsung Note-5 released Aug 2015 is not in the list. Samsung itself do not consider its product worth for trade-in.
So you're complaint is that they'll give you $40 less for the Note-5 than an iPhone 6s? ("Any Smartphone" gets $75, the iPhone is $115.)

For 5g to work well, you have to be v close to 5g antenna towers. Just bad coverage right now
This is generally not true. Millimeter wave 5G had much shorter range than 4G, so what you've said is true there. However nobody other than Verizon is rolling that out, and even then only in a very small number of markets.

All other 5G uses the same frequencies as 4G, and thus will have similar range. eg, T-mobile is using band 71 for much of their 5G, which at 600Mhz is pretty much as far away from millimeter wave as you can get.

A71, at least on Tmobile network is a total garbage phone with many KNOWN issues that remain unresolved. Buyer beware. Dropped data and missed calls galore.
This is essentially the same phone in a smaller form factor.

Is it true that you can trade in any smart phones? I saw from the black friday deal, people got denied when they traded in old android phones such as prepaid LG or Kyocera.
I did with a very old Android phone. Just make sure it can be turned on, and factory reset is done.

Does turning off 5g save considerable battery life?
In theory it should be because 5G require more antenna to receive aignal. But i have not test it out myself so i can't say for sure
