"S20 5g is better than this phone."

What?! What a shocker?! You said the $1K Samsung Galaxy S20 5G with the launch price of $999.99 is better than the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. You are comparing apples to oranges. Who said this phone was a flagship? Samsung never said it was a "flagship". Samsung sells a billion various models from budget to expensive flagship.

Where is the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S20 5G deal where people are paying $180 out of pocket with no plan? I missed that deal.
I agree that's a ridiculous comment and comparison.

It IS fair to compare this phone to the S20 FE, which can be had for around $200 with trade in. That's arguably the better phone (better camera, wireless charging), but does suffer the phantom touch issue. And that deal requires you trade in a decent phone. You can't get it with a generic garbage phone.

I like my A71. Mine works fine. I haven't used it in the shower and never will. But fingerprint works fine (not as nice as TouchID was on Apple, but still works OK). The performance and screen quality are also nice, but the A71 is not the same class as an iPhone 11 (which I have an 11 PRO MAX), but I also paid only $88 for my A71 and as such, why would I compare it to a much more expensive iPhone 11?
I compared the a71 to the iPhone 11 that has a similar retail. Fair comparison. I also said that this one is one heavy promo BECAUSE it's not a mid tier phone. My comparison wasn't on your pro max

I traded-in note 8 for this last month. So far no regrets. Camera, battery life are good. Took few days to get used to the front finger print scanner. But overall good phone and no issues so far.

I agree 100%, I do not feel that this phone should be compared to the 4a5g or iPhone 11. Both are really in another class. I did the same thing. I had the a71 for a few days and sold it to get a 4a5g. At this time I am way happier with the pixel. If photos are a priory spend a litter more and get the 4a5g, it shines compared to the a71.
Thank you for illustrating my point further. People are misunderstanding my comparison. The 4a5g is only 500 and the a71 is 650. Samsung is creating the impression that this a nice phone at a great price with the promo. FALSE. the 4a5g is cheaper retail AND a better phone. Getting the A71 dirt cheap isn't the worst idea, BUT YOU'RE NOT GETTING A MID TIER PHONE. That was the only point I'm making. Paying "more " for a pixel is still gonna save you a headache.

Similar retail? The A71 is almost always on sale or has some promo either by Samsung or a carrier and the iPhone 11 is almost never on sale.

You can't compare by "retail" which are made up numbers for items always on sale.

In any case, For <$100 (or as low as free), the A71 is a fantastic phone. If there were a free or $100 iPhone 11, that would be a better buy, but there isn't (nor will there ever be).

Google never ever promised 3 system updates. You are mistaken. You are confusing 3 years with 3 automatic system updates. Did you know it took 13 months from android 10 to 11.

Assume it takes like 13 months between system updates just like from 10 to 11, it will leave the Pixel 4a 5G with getting 2 system updates over their 3 years. The Pixel 4a 5G came out when Android 11 just came out. Think about that.

Pixel 4a 5G (android 11...... Sept.) 2020 <--- came with
android 12 ..... Nov 2021 <-- 1 system update
android 13....... Dec 2022 <--- 2nd system update

The 3rd system update won't happen before November 2023.... That equates to 2 system updates unless Google starts putting out system updates less than 1 year. Do you believe Google will start putting out system updates in like every 10 months?
Every system update I've gotten on a Pixel has been in the Sept/Oct release time line.

My P2XL had 3 OS updates on top of Oreo 8 (8+9+10+11) before I recently retired it.

As with any technology updates, the roadmap to consumer's hands have a lot faster lead time than when your individual phone receives it from the Google servers.

The Android 11 developers image was already out in the public domain for review back in Feb 2020 and released in September 2020 NOT 13 months from Android 10 which had similar timeline in 2019.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_11

I am not sure why you are arguing facts when the Google link I posted clearly states:
"Pixel phones get Android version updates for at least 3 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store"

https://support.google.com/pixelp...le%20Store.

I did this deal when it was Verizon's a couple of weeks ago and it was sweeter than this one but it's still a no-brainer to me.

After trading in an ancient smartphone (HTC inspire), I paid about $150 for the A71 + galaxy buds that were included. No contract extension, no activation fees, no extra charges.

If you have an old smartphone that you can't get rid of, you'd be a fool not to do this. Where else are you going to get a new 5G smartphone for $150? Even if you don't like it or don't plan to keep it, you can turn a decent profit from selling it.

"Oh it's not waterproof, the fingerprint scanner is weak, it didn't read my blood type correctly, it didn't vaccinate me against COVID..."

Get a grip.

I have a 6splus phone which not only has a badly broken screen but the front frame is also broke. Does it qualify for this offer or is the qualification if the screen is broken and not the surrounding frame??

I am not using the phone - it is a paper weight.

So, if I "trade it in", is my net cost for the Galaxy A71 5G zero which I can then later sell?
No idea whether it would qualify. My guess is no.

I have both. The screen is better on the a71. Heck, the whole phone looks better. Sure, my 11 is a little faster and speakers are louder, but I like using the A71 more because of the screen.
