Not true. Just reach out to @tmobilehelp on Twitter via DM with the imei and they'll unlock it for you. I just did it last week. No special approach required. The unlock was successful in 8 hours.

A71 is a mid range phone with "5G competable" but i think note 9 should still be a better phone

More great info - thank you. I was not aware of the difference with the 5g and the sim card. I thought 5g was only phone dependent.

Can you talk to my TMO rep? Brought the S20 FE from Costco outright and still can't unlock it. They said we can temp unlock it for 30 days and then wait 10 more days to permanently unlock. Same response from my cousin's rep.
