I am 6'1" and did not heed the advice of others about the Hyken being for short people. I don't have any experience with this chair but the Hyken sucks for me.
You can leave it off. I had to leave off the arm rests as well because my wife hates that they hit her desk and she couldn't push in her chair all the way in.
