Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

It's unlocked, but you need to stay in fi for 90 days to get your $600 discount

From what I can tell this is true from a hardware perspective but all the firmware intended for the US disables the esim.

Take a read through this: https://us.community.samsung.com/...-p/1105283

None of the US/Snapdragon S20 can do esim - that is for the Exynos variant only.

I'm about mid way through a year of prepaid ATT, otherwise I'd really consider picking this up. Although, I'd be hesitant just because the successor is launching in 7 days. I wouldn't expect new prices to be much lower than this though.

Btw I don't think the Samsung phones benefit from network switching that Google Fi has. In case anyone cares about that.

It depends on the model. The s20 phones do, my note 10+ does not.

You can use their site to see which phones work with network switching.

Fi plans seem a bit expensive to me. We've got att for about $125 for 3 lines with 10gb plus rollover data. I could use corporate discount to keep it at that. Fi data charges seem a bit of stretch at $10/gb. You go on a trip with your kids and before you realize you are easily 3-4gb out. What am I missing ?

Hehe... Is that risk worth $600 to you?
Can't we just turn off the phone once activated? If not, this is a no go for S21 trade-in!

You aren't missing anything. Fi plans are expensive if you use a lot of data. I think most people are either switching to Fi for 90 days and switching back or just sitting on the phone for 90 days and paying the minimal Fi bill.

Pretty sure you will be getting a $600 additional charge if you don't keep it active on Fi for 90 days.

This seems to be for existing customers too, right? I don't even see anything that says you have to add a line. You just have to activate it on a full service plan. Presumably that includes the full service plan you're already paying for. Does anyone know if this is correct? I haven't been able to get on chat to ask this.

It is. But when I ordered, in my billing promo details, there is a "step" for "transfer number to fi" after "activate". I am hoping that just means activate on current number.

My Fi bill is under $30/month because there's WiFi everywhere I use my phone. When I do need mobile data, it works at full postpaid speed vs. the deprioritized BS of prepaid providers.

Tempting deal on the phone, but don't want to lose my Pixel 2's SPAM blocking and Google Assistant call screening.

To be safe I'd show usage, talk and text. Turn off data. Talk and text has no extra charge. Always better to be on the safe side if you can.

Yeah, part of me if wondering if Fi can blacklist the imei. I'm not sure how though seeing the phone is unlocked, and there is no contract. I once had a red card from Target I forgot was attached to a checking account I no longer. I made a purchase and it went through. Then I got a letter in the mail from Target said I owed them the balance. I assumed they weren't reporting to a credit agency and ignored the letter. They sent 2 more and then stopped. Never seen or heard anything since.
That might be the situation here. Google might just send emails to the new account about an unpaid balance and declining cards, and nothing more. They also might blacklist the IMEI.
Real question is if it's worth $40 plus taxes and waiting 3 months to get use the phone with whichever carrier you like.
U can use with another carrier you just can't use the Google fi sim thst the phone comes with on another carrier .

I chatted with one of them yesterday, and she insisted that GV is not eligible. Not sure if we should believe any of it. But I also don't want to risk loosing $600.00 discountSmilie.
