Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

It's unlocked, but you need to stay in fi for 90 days to get your $600 discount

So I can pretty much get this phone, then activate the Fi sim while it's in the phone so it tells Google I'm all kosher, then pretty much remove the SIM, and insert my main SIM and use the phone? So the Fi SIM does not need to remain in the S20 for 90 days (just an active Fi SIM with plan)??
correct. googlefi uses t-mobile/sprint so it can be on their network but not interfere with you using a att sim or verizon sim etc.

hypothetical question. If i have an xfinity mobile pay per gb plan, can i just activate a new line using BYOD to get a free number and then port it out? the 3 lines i have currently use <1gb and cost me ~$20/mo
Yes xfinity mobile byod is a good source of phone numbers to port from.

thats what i was planning on doing but after ordering i saw a line item in the billing/promo details that had "transfer number to Fi". wasnt sure what that was about so cancelled it. may order with a port-in from another account. main issue is if i want to risk using device on my main Verizon line after activating on Fi. after ref discount its coming to about $475. not sure if we can buy it for $500 outright in coming weeks without the 3-month no trade/sell limitations.
I don't see that in the terms for existing Fi customers..

Anyone know the actual model of s20? I'm wondering if this is an unlocked sprint/tmobile model or if it is the same as the unlocked model that you would buy from Samsung. The unlocked version that isn't a carrier model isn't dependent on the carrier to approve updates. I don't really want some unlocked Google fi special model.

Just unlocked model, not unlocked sprint/tmobile model.

Is there any way to make a line without a phone? I gave it the IMEI of my Pixel 2 and both IMEI's of my wifes Pixel 5 and it says they are all not compatible.

I rely on Cricket wifi calling and could only use phone from Cricket with customized ROMs. So does Google Fi now have full wifi calling support with Galaxy rather than Pixel phones? I read somewhere wifi calling was only possible in Google Voice. Is it still true today? I think I want 'ROM/carrier level support', rather than 'app level support'..
S20 unlocked doesn't have wifi calling feature on ATT network, so you can't get wifi calling on cricket wireless. Google voice has almost all free outbound calls to the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) when you call from US.

Ultra is just another sub-carrier service under the TMobile umbrella just like Mint. In fact, I can say for a fact that when you log in to Mint or Ultra, the Account dashboard are identical - except for the colors. Ultra is purple, while Mint is, well, Mint.

I bought the Ultra SIM as it seems to be the cheapest way to get a new number for me to port into a Fi SIM. I am satisfied with my current carrier service and don't want to port my main everyday phone number into Fi, and thus only wanting to get in on this deal for the phone.
sumayopoWhich one would you pick between Note 10+ and Galaxy S20?
I was torn about that too. But, the s20 has better PPI and resolution, 120hz refresh and a glass panel in the rear, not very important, but more premium than the glasstic on the note. $100 for a "lesser" phone didn't make sense. There are a few YT's on the VS of those two as well.

Ok, this is good info for me in case they decide porting a GV number doesn't qualify I should be able to take your method then. Thanks for explaining that it will certainly be a plan B for me.
