Whatever you do, dont use the Fi sim on any other phone until the terms are fulfilled. You are however free to use the phone on any carrier and let the Fi sim sit in your drawer too!

For new customers, it's $400
I am not sure I would be using this in a trade-in to get a base S21.
For new customers, it's $400
What phones are designed for Google Fi?
ī
The current phones designed for Fi are Pixels, Moto G7, Moto G6, LG G7 ThinQ, LG V35 ThinQ, and Android One Moto X4. They are built to support multiple cellular networks, and they have a state-of-the-art cellular radio tuned to work across network types. You must have the North American model of the above devices to use it on the Google Fi network.
Other Android phones and iPhones do not have the same network switching technology but still get many of the other benefits of the plan.ā
EDIT with further details.....
Fi features that don't work and/or aren't supported on my S20+ 5G purchased through the Fi store.
Visual voicemail through the Google Phone app. The response I received from support is that it's not supported through the app on the device/carrier (despite being 'Designed for Fi' on Google Fi...), and to instead turn on voicemail transcription through SMS and to use the default S20 dialer's voicemail support (clunky). This is the biggest disappointment.
Wifi Calling : Not sure if it's suppose to be supported or not, but I can't get it working. I can place and receive calls over wifi, and can hear the other end fine, but I can never be heard.
Carrier Switching ? : I haven't seen this work at all yet.
No support for the eSIM on the devices. You have to use a SIM card for Fi, meaning you can't use that slot for an SD Card.
I like the phones, but overall I'm disappointed with Fi on this. I feel like they just slapped 'Designed for Fi' label on these devices to push sales through the store, without actually ensuring the Fi experience is supported on them.
I know the Pixel comes out cheaper after GC and selling the B&O speakers, but I plan to use the phone for trade-in for next years iPhone 13 Pro Max. Phone will be used as regular phone (social media, videos, camera) and no gaming.
Pixel Pros: Slightly better photos, stock android, regular updates
Pixel Cons: Build Quality, lack of IP68 (ones i care about)
Pros for S20: Better Build, Powerful SoC, Screen, 12GB RAM, potentially higher trade-in/resell value
Cons for S20: Samsung bloatware, photos not as good as Pixel/iPhone Pro
