List price $125 but usually available on Amazon for $100. $75 is a great deal for this jump starter. I know there are cheaper lithium jump starters, but this is one of the only brands sold directly by Amazon and not subject to review hacking.

https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GB40-...B015TKUPIC

The GB40 is appropriate for most cars. The other NOCO Boost jump starters are on sale too:

Any hope this will drop down to ~$65 again anytime soon?

What's better, this or the GOOLOO 1500A jump starter?

Not a good value.

I got this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FJ243R7 instead.

Better value, more features.
You're comparing an overnight e-brand with a mainstream brand that Amazon sells directly. They're not comparable. Even leaving aside build quality and safety features, e-brands tend to use generic lithium cells that degrade much faster than the cells used by mainstream brands. So you'll end up paying more by re-buying them every 2-3 years versus 5-7 years. It's worse for a jump starter because you'll only realize that it's not working when you actually need to use it.

What is the advantage to a product sold directly by Amazon? How does that indicate the quality of the product? Amazon directly sells tons of low quality goods. Do you have other reasons this brand is better than others? The # of reviews on this NOCO is suspicious on its own - I am not sure how it has so many reviews unless they reimburse or incentivize their customers somehow to leave 5 star reviews.

This jump starter performed very poorly in Project Farm's test, compared to random Chinese ones.

Amazon only sells established, long-term brands directly. E-brands are sold by third parties but fulfilled by Amazon. E-brand product SKUs will typically disappear every 2-3 years by the time long term reviews start coming in. By contrast, the GB40 has been on Amazon since 2010. I've owned 2 of these units for 3 years now and I see the product has been further revised since then, but it's still the same listing.

E-brands can easily do paid 'verified' reviews because they are the seller. They control promo codes, special offers and secret sales. Brands sold by Amazon can't do those things, so paid reviews are much harder. NOCO uses old-fashioned hyperactive customer service to maintain their ratings instead.

I like Project Farm but his analysis in this case was flawed/incomplete:

1. He did not disassemble the units to see what cells are used. Cells made by Sony and Samsung have good long term stability. Those made by no-name manufacturers will test great initially, but the capacity will drop rapidly and they'll have safety/stability issues much sooner.

2. He did not test them in wet conditions. Half the times I have had to jump my car, it's either in the rain or snow.

3. He did not test safety features. Of course you should always be careful in your car engine bay and shouldn't do anything that might cause a sparking short, but accidents happen. Jump starters exist that are smart enough to prevent them.

I think the overall results would have looked a lot different if he had considered these aspects too. He was almost solely focused on who squeezed the largest capacity cells into their unit, no matter how cheap and short-lived those cells actually are.

For people who want to keep a jump starter in their car, I would recommend them picking a safe one over a cheap one. You don't know what kind of low quality circuits / batteries they put in the case.

Missed the $69.26 deal. About a month after that deal, my battery kept dying right before Christmas. Glad I waited just a little bit longer! When you need it now, $6 is no difference at all... Getting tired of asking neighbors to borrow a pop of their hood if it drains completely, or popping out the door lock fuse every time I get out of the car and expect not to drive for more than a few hours.

Anyway, turns out it was a failing tailgate latch that kept trying to initiate itself randomly, eventually draining the battery. But currently waiting on the part to come in to install (covered under extended warranty). Hopefully will get the battery replaced too, considering it's less than a year old but has been fully discharged nearly a dozen times due to another defective factory part. I'm sure the battery has taken a big hit being jumped so many times. Idiots at the dealership didn't test the battery when I told them to a few days ago.

Btw, I actually work at the dealership (IT), and this is the brand the parts departments sell. Because they're actually industry recognized, reliable, and safe. Sure you could go with a no name brand, but as others have already mentioned, you might as well pay at least double because the no-name battery packs likely will go kaput that much quicker.

I've had several of these and I've never had problems jump starting my car. The only reason I say "several" is because two of them were stolen along the way. I have a "beater" car that sits for awhile and has a tendency to have a dead battery. Never had a problem with this getting it running. Just my anecdotal view - not sure if there are other units that are a better value or not.

I like that it charges via MicroUSB (I'd prefer USB-C) as opposed to a barrel plug because I always have a charging cable around for it. I've also had a couple of "no name" brands in this category fail on me and not take a charge anymore.

Great brand, bad product. Always buy at least twice the advertised size for your displacement engine. They all exaggerate what their products can do, and NOCO is no exception.

Also be aware that these should only be expected to last about 2 years, because lithium batteries don't like to be stored in the heat nor at 100% capacity, but you need both if you expect it to be useful to you when you need it it will have to stay in the car and fully charged.

I just don't see how this jump starter has 25,000 reviews when jump starters from other brands have a few hundred to at most 2,000 reviews. It definitely seems like these reviews are bought and the YouTube video someone posted here shows the Noco at the bottom of the pack through multiple tests. Even if they are missing some tests, the ones that were performed don't look good for this unit. urlhasbeenblocked, Topvision and Audew seem like the best units all at lower prices.

I don't even know why I wasted time explaining that this product has been around much longer and that 'sold by Amazon' products cannot have 'bought reviews' (except through vine). No one's forcing you to buy it. You're doing the equivalent of thread-crapping on an iphone deal while complaining that a cheaper Huawai phone has better specs and that it's all a scam.

I saw a AAA guy giving a jump start with this same unit once I was very impressed. But where do you store this type of jump starter if you want to keep it for emergency? I like the small size and power bank feature. I read these lithium jump starter can be a fire hazard if you leave them in the car especially in hot summer. I read cold winter could be a problem? Then what's the point of having it for emergency use? It definitely could be a life saver if I could just figure out the proper storage in the car. TIA.
