My brother was recently denied making a return to Home Depot. apparently he has been blacklisted from making returns. He doesn't do anything DVS: reselling items, returning stolen items, etc. He just over purchases for every project he does and returns what he doesn't use.

He's a bit confused as the Home Depot employees were not able to tell him much. Apparently they use a third-party company to monitor returns. But he was told he needs to write a letter to Home Depot or something.

I assumed we were always being tracked for returning to store credit, but I

You are not "normal folk." You are leaches. You overbuy and then return, creating additional costs to Home Depot in customer service & restocking time and wages. Those costs are passed on to normal customers as higher prices.

Again, buy what you need and nothing more. Simple principle that respects others and companies. Hoping Home Depot continues to crack down on abuse by contractors and "income property" owners, so nornal customers can have lower prices and shorter wait times.
Exactly. Not sponge worthy.

Wow did someone pee in your wheaties or what? Get over it! If someone is smart enough and has the resources to think ahead and buy what may be needed for a project instead of driving back and forth wasting time and gas all the power to them. The 'contractors' and 'income producing property owners' that your complaining about are the ones who keep those stores going, not some average homeowner that goes there for plants or some minuscule weekend task! That's why they have 'The Pro Desk' at HD and 'Lowes for Pros' at Lowe's. They know the contractors and people w rental properties keep them in the black. I don't see them with a special section in the store just for homeowners...why? Because the change you spend there is a drop in the bucket compared to what the ones your complaining about spend. Have you ever bid out a project with 'The Pro Desk'??? Probably not, because then you would know they are the first ones to encourage buying extra and returning what you don't need. Time is money, (even if it's on my home projects), and if I'm wasting my time driving back to the store, that $10 part is costing me a whole lot more than $10. And don't worry if your behind me in the return line with your plant I'll make sure to have the cashier try every card I have as I return the slew of pvc couplings and then I'll pull out every receipt to scan those as well so my half a brain will waste all of your time while you stand behind me waiting. ~ 'Because nobody with half a brain would opt to put things they bought with a receipt on store credit...' Oh and that statement just shows how much you really know/spend there, because that $60 store credit that I took, (instead of wasting 20 minutes with receipts and cc's), is getting spent on that same visit.

This only happens if you return 3 times without a receipt in a 90 day period. Which only bans you for the same amount of time. This happened to me as well. I ended up just having my wife return it.

We have a income property we do work on for a week straight. Wife and I, and workers go to HD and of course we over-buy or not end up using some of the cleaning supplies and material. Keeping track of which card or who paid for what and receipts is a nightmare. So we return without them for store credit. Nothing wrong with this practice. HD needs to just make accounts for people based on telephone number and name to avoid blacklisting normal folk.

FYI, the database your name gets put on is also being used by BB, Macy's and other retailers who use the service. So if your banned there, your banned at the other retailers as well. "the Retail Equation"
It's ridiculous they have this, to begin with. How the heck does anyone abuse returns. I bet it's a small percentage of people somehow trying to scheme compared to average buyers who simply don't like the product or bought the wrong kind. Returning things is part of commerce in the 21st century especially with so many private labels overseas rip-offs on the market. We need better consumer protections and better start standing up for rights to return or literally every manufacturer starts to crank up the dials on greed and starts flooding stores with unsatisfactory products because duping people at high prices is the best profit margins. This is capitalism eating itself and the planet.

You do realize that when they say let the market speak for itself, it's literally us buying or not buying products because too many people spoke up about a crap product and returned. That's the only way corporations get the message. The problem is everything is geared for maximum profits and growth for their investors and so the employees and the smallest consumers always get screwed. They could easily pay for more experienced employees and honor their customer satisfaction guarantee at the same time while allowing sales and discounts and warranties to exist but its corporate greed culture won't permit it let alone care about you as a consumer. There's no need to shill for that. We're all in this together.
