Note the clamp can only accommodate bench thickness up to 2 1/4". Seems like a really good price if that works for you.

I think so. Especially since this one mounts from the top, which isn't optimal. Irwin sells one for around the same price (a little cheaper, usually) that I think is a little more useful in this price range.

I'm going with the Irwin. My workbench is also an outfeed so this vice will be in the way. Same with the Harbor Freight. The Irwin looks like it can be mounted to be flush with or slightly below the bench surface.

Bought irwin one month ago and found it cannot be closed well always leaves bit gap( as people complianted on review). Replaced another one still the same and eventually returned it.

I don't see a reason for me to remove the vice and would likely permanently mount it to a table.

I'm guessing I might as well skip this and get a permanent one rather than permanent/ portable?

Thoughts? Thanks.
I was looking at the Erwin, but looks like If I were clamp it to a board under my bench, It would have the flexibility to be flush to the table like the Erwin, but can remove it to move around easily if needed. I like the Idea of being able to move it outside when we have good weather.

In for 1, Thanks OP

I'll never buy another HF clamp of any kind. I have 20 year old jorgensens, 20 year old bessey's, and I have HF clamps in my scrap metal pile. I use about a 40 year old bench vise.

Did you insert any wooden pieces into the vise? Did that help the closing? I'm looking at the Irwin too

Yes, that's the one. Anyone interested, please keep in mind that this vise is intended to be mounted with screws; there is no quick clamp like the Woodriver one. However, once mounted flush, the Irwin leaves your flat work surface intact.
I spent a decent amount of time looking for vices, both bench top and front mounted on amazon google Lowe's and Home Depot. Not sure how I never saw this Irwin one.

Looks like a great deal. I grabbed one for $20

I was considering the other ones that have swivel, but this should get the job done at 1/3-1/5 of the price

That is by design. With woodworking vices, it is expected that you provide your own boards to make non-marring jaw faces that will take up that gap. See example pics in the customer images of the Amazon listing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001LQY4E/

When making a deal post, there is a box to input the price right under where you write the title. This makes it seem redundant to put the price in the title as well.

If you want the price in the title, blame the website designers, not the individual poster.

You say Harbor Freight $20 clamps don't last as long as your $200 Jorgensen clamps? Color me surprised. Some of us don't have $200 clamp money.

Mine clamps completely at the top, even without wood spacers but ideally, you'll want those spacers and once in place, you won't have a gap. As Jeff said, the wood helps prevent marring or damaging whatever material you're working on. If you're going to be using a vise without wood, you might look into a machinist or general use vise.

The thing I need in a vice is the quick release. This one doesn't seem to have one.

I never paid anywhere near 200 for a clamp in my life. IF you bought one for 200, well, I also have a bridge to sell you. As any woodworker will tell you, you can never have enough clamps.

Go to a woodworking show - the manufacturers put them on sale there many times. My last Jorgensen's I bought at a Grizzly (woodworking tool manufacturer) tent sale. Here is another tidbit, try going to an auction when some woodshop or woodworker goes out of business/retires. At auction test the clamp before purchase to see if it flexes warps or bends. Try going to a flea market, you might be surprised at what you can find there after a couple of Saturdays or Sundays. When attending flea markets go early, the best stuff is gone within 1-2 hours of opening. You can try craiglsist or FB marketplace, but I've had no luck with woodworking tools through those places.

Oh, and just let me say in this disposable economy, if you buy 5 of those junk cheap clamps from HF you paid enough to have gotten yourself a lifetime tool. But cheaper right now is what people want today.

When you are talking price, you compare retail to retail or sale to sale. Saying that I should be attending woodworking shows or flea markets to save a few bucks is just simply bonkers. My time has some value bud.
The fact is that Jorgensons retail for 5x the price of the HF vice. I am not going to break 5 HF vices in my lifetime. There is also no guarantee that the Jorgenson won't break, they aren't invincible.
Also, you cannot have enough clamps. However we are talking about vices not clamps and one vice is plenty.

Apparently you really don't do woodworking, you just dabble in the odd project. If you were interested in woodworking, going to shows would be interesting and enjoyable, not a time suck. I go to flea markets to find antiques, find deals, do a little social studying, and just see what is out there. Apparently you just like to compare online sales, which is fine. Please don't take this as a condemnation of your perspective, it is just that I don't see it that way.. I compare 1 item to another, not online vendors vs. one another.

I talked about clamps from the get go, you were the one that took exception to my statement. If HF vendors can't make a clamp worth a poop, I'm sure they won't make a vice worth a poop either.

In all honesty, if your not breaking those cheap HF clamps, you probably aren't really using them. I gave them a try, they failed the test. I'm happy for you if they work for your needs. There were woodworkers in this thread discussing their equipment and I voiced my concerns about HF clamps for their benefit, not mine.
