Possible to receive the Fi bill credit and still be eligible for credit card phone insurance?

Most credit cards offering this benefit require some or all of the monthly bill to be charged to the card for the insurance to be valid. Would prepaying $10 every month on a $0 balance due work?

Does anybody know if for family accounts on Fi, is the credit available for the entire family or just the number ported? I'd like to add a new account to the family account, port a number on it to get the 50% credit and then remove the service after 3 months. Of course it only makes sense if the credit is applied to the family, otherwise it'll disappear once the line is disconnected.

Does anybody have any experience with that?

It *should* work, but a low dollar value might make it suspicious. I had a bunch of fi credit that was paying for my plan, but had the phone under a monthly payment. That was enough for the insurance company to take my claim, but YMMV.

From what I've seen - the credit is tied to the line but you will have the option to apply it on the entire account.

Canceling this line is risky.

Yeah I read a bit more about this. It seems even if you pause service, the credits will not apply if service is paused for more than 7 days in a billing cycle. The credit usage is brutal - almost like a 15 month tie-in unless you have a large family account.

Ugh. I just ordered the s20 from Google Fi a couple of days ago for $399.

I wonder if I should go through the hassle of sending it back to get the s21 essentially for $499. Hmmm...
Watch out, because then you might be considered not a new fi member and may not qualify for the credits. Fi terms are convoluted and their billing is confusing (and they are very slow to apply credits to bills). I joined fi during black Friday sale, and my experience has been net negative.

Instead of group plan, you might get more using referral credits. Also remember referral credits are voided if that person joins a group within 30 days.

Each person's credits can be accumulated in the group and applied to the group's payments. But like I mentioned before, if you refer a person to get referral bonus for both, you'll lose the bonus if that person joins any group.

The terms do include existing Fi member although it is not 50% but $300 or $400 Fi credit instead

Same here. I'm actually gonna return my S20 from Google Fi and buy the new S21+ for larger screen and battery. The $150 Samsung.com credits will help for accessories that I will buy like cases and wireless charger, which is a bonus too, which is not mentioned in this deal.

Deal seems notably worse than Samsung preorder offers. No perks at work / RAK10 cashback. No +$50 accessory credit code. Lower trade-in values. Possible hassle of dealing with Fi CS.

Not much to love here.

If you don't have anything to trade in, isn't 600$ off through bill credit better?

How much discount do you get through perks at work?

For anyone looking for an S21 the direct from Samsung preorder thread has worked out some ways to bring the price down further.

Best stack stack for last minute buyers:
$550 S10e Trade-In (get amazon renewed for $350)
50LATESTGALAXY5G $50 (+$50 accessories code #1)
CS_50_LATESTGALAXY_5G (+$50 accessories code #2)
referral code (5-10% off code)
first responder / edu / military etc. (5%)
