YMMV Targeted Offer for Amex Cardholders.

Opened my Amex account this morning to see a new offer from Dropbox. 50% off all purchases when you add the offer to your card, then make a purchase. I switched my account over to Yearly to double the savings. My Dropbox professional account came out to $100/yr or $8.33/mo.

Offer Details: Enrollment limited. Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem. Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards are eligible. Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels. Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Offer valid on US website only at dropbox.com, dropbox.com/business and dropbox.com/pro. Excludes Dropbox Business Enterprise, Dropbox education, Dropbox business accounts with 15+ licenses, nonprofit & educational institutions discounts & professional Dropbox consulting services. Offer is non-transferable. The enrolled Card account must not be cancelled or past due to receive statement credits. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 7/15/2021, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer.

Keep in mind that Dropbox just laid off 11% of their workforce and their COO just resigned.

Their excuse for the layoffs is that the work-from-home experiment due to Covid lockdowns was so successful that they don't need physical offices or office staff anymore. However, the COO's departure after less than a year on the job suggests that there may be bigger problems at Dropbox and Covid is just a convenient excuse to try to cut costs.

Solid offer but a little late for me. AMEX had a less enticing offer recently (maybe 40%?), and I didn't take them up on that. I migrated to Google One and am feeling pretty good about it so far, even if Dropbox is a little more refined in its features.

That's sad to hear.

I use Dropbox and like it a lot. I use it to scan my receipts to my organized folders, and share sensitive information via password protected links to other people.

There is also rumors of a buyout. Cutting fat before a buyout would fit as well.

I'd suggest Google Drive for that.

I'm happy to pay $60 to keep my Dropbox going for another year.

I challenge you to find a better File sync service with
  • A full-featured Web UI
  • Clients for Windows, Mac, Linux

I had to renew my Dropbox subscription in December and could not find any discounts at that time. Do you think it's possible to renew early to take advantage of the deal?

Does anyone know of any current discounts for existing dropbox customers? Their interface is so bad that I don't want to pay full price.

11% of their staff was some sort of office support? Google says they have 2548. So that's roughly 250 people? I don't buy it. It's possible that they moved a lot of people or positions to contract.
