If your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) is less than 72k the IRS Free file program may work for you.
Credit Karma Tax—is it really free?
Yes! Credit Karma Tax is always 100% free. It's $0 to file both state and federal tax returns. Even if you're taking deductions or credits, it won't cost you a penny, ever.
Free Tax USA is also another free federal tax software
Just applied the promo code to a Premier return and it brought the price down to $0. Only seems to work for online returns, not downloaded from what I can find.
I finally got the code (2 days?!?!?). As I thought, the code isn't a flat $100 but depends on the product. It's also for the web version only.
Free = $0 (!)
Deluxe = $40 rather than $60 (state additional)
Premier = $70 rather than $90 (state additional)
Self-Employed = $90 rather than $120 (state additional)
I wouldn't doubt if the other savings (to make up $100) was buried in one of their other products, like the professional reviews or whatever.
Code does appear to be unique.... a jumble of letters/numbers.
I'm not ready to file by a long shot, so don't wait on me for an update, but methinks that you can get better deals elsewhere.
Just called Intuit ((800) 624-9066) and talked to a very nice rep who was able to offer the download version (Premier with state) instead of the online version. YMMV a lot.

How did they end up applying the coupon code so you could get a download version?
When I called in the rep, who was friendly, said they don't really apply coupon codes and often companies like Lowes would provide a link to their own site. So friendly, but not helpful.
If you can elaborate on how they did it for you perhaps I'll have some luck in calling again and walking them through it.
Just FYI everyone , you have to add payment method to get code. I used one of the Visa Gift card (rebate card) & added to my profile.
@OP - this is true, I got following in a e-mail from lowes
Note that I think you have to register the card in "Lowe's For Pros Loyalty Program" in order to get the code.

Thanks! there was a clearance item at 90% off at my local lowes I couldnt buy online and couldn't find in store, I used your trick and it let me buy online and I just picked it up.
Can you explain more please, I still cant find where to enter service code.
The service code is provided by the TT rep. It is definitely YMMV. It all depends on what the cx states as the reason to get download instead of online

Everyone seems to be focused on the TT side of this, but I'm not familiar with the Lowe's for Pros program. From what I can tell there is no fee and technically it can be used for individuals without an actual business (whether that's self employed or not)? Anything else to know about the program, positive or negative?
The main thing with these business accounts is better visibility on spend for expense tracking and end of year invoicing. I believe you also get a little pricing concession, around ~15% off some items' ticketed prices and well as bulk discounts.

How did you navigate to a live person? They seem to have a very aggressive process to block people from speaking to a real person
EDIT: finally managed to get through by just repeated calls and trying different options

I finally got through to a rep, mentioned the "service code" but the rep stated its not something they can change as its something only Lowes can do. Any guidance on what you said to get them to switch?
Signed up for Lowes pro, received the Turbo tax code instantly. Applied to Premier+ live help and got it for $25. Went back to Lowes pro to delete credit card. It took less than 5 minutes. Thanks OP!
fyi, you can pay for Turbotax now and file later. Go to print center to get pay now option.
I just spoke with customer service and they said there is no way to apply the code to the download version. Not sure how the other poster managed that. They said the max discount they can do is $20 which is still far more than prices at Amazon/Target

Would you mind elaborating a bit more....
Did you give them your code over the phone, and they then send you a temporary download link? Or maybe a link you could share, or am I asking too much?
Or did the code from Lowes activate the desktop version once you had downloaded?
Bottom line: I've got the codes from Lowes, but would also much prefer the desktop version.

They must have just gotten lucky with a rep and the product was free after coupon so they just gave it to them. I need the home&biz version which is $110 on their CD/download checkout (ridiculous). So even after the coupon assuming $100 is applied, it would still be $10. There is no way to enter a promo code in that check out process

I gave the rep the code-- put me on hold a few minutes, and then placed an order so it shows up in my available downloads on my Intuit/Turbotax account. I may have just gotten lucky.

I went through the (somewhat painful) process earlier today. I performed the following steps:
Click on the coupon code displayed in the "Your Pro Loyalty Program Welcome Offer" email
Click on the desired product's "Start for free" link (TurboTax Premier, in my case)
Initiate a tax return, entering the required information (i.e., mostly just contact information)
Click on the File link
Proceed through the steps so as to get to the payment screen
Enter the coupon code from the "Your Pro Loyalty Program Welcome Offer" email (reducing the purchase price to $0)
'Convert' TurboTax Online purchase to TurboTax Download (with State)*
Click on the button to download the installer EXE
Copy the license code for use during the installation
Install the product
Worked great!
*I had to call Intuit to 'jump start' this step but am not sure it was required. While on the call, the CSR also stated that converting to the downloadable product would make my TT Online purchase (i.e., the initial filing) invalid.
Hope this helps!

Edit: Never mind. It is on File page. I have a service code and it got applied succesfully.

Wondering what info they send back to Lowes if you do use the link / coupon.
