Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

Just an update. I got an XS max AT&T version. You do not need to boot or insert a sim card in to unlock the phone. I just used the AT&T unlock portal, punched in the imei and waited like 5 min before they sent me an email to confirm, and an email to put in my Tmobile sim to finish the unlock process. Super simple.
It has been a while (years) since I unlocked a phone. Seems like there are 2 steps. Is the second step (putting in a T-Mobile SIM) necessary to fully unlock the phone? Assuming I put in a T-Mobile SIM in the second step, is now the phone locked to T-Mobile? Thanks.

When picking which wireless company at the beginning, does anyone know if that changes the provider logo you see on bootup and which pre-loaded apps get installed? I have a buddy that I bought one for and he has Straight Talk and does not plan on ever moving from them. So for him, the startup logo and pre-installed software for Straight Talk are more important than network unlock but having to have AT&T bloatware on it. I have T-Mobile so I cannot answer this. Any knowledgeable folks out here on this or even understand what I'am saying here? TIA
This isn't like Android. Apple doesn't have pre-installed bloat apps like Android phones. So you'll be good to go! Just get him a solid case, and he'll be happy. FWIW, Your a good friend.

So is the consensus here is get att sim and boot up phone then request unlock from portal? Doesn't matter if you got under Verizon?

Thanks!
Any insight from anyone if reaching T-Roc is as effective as OSL was? Seems my stores are T-Roc. I filled out the WM forms but it can't hurt to cover more bases at this point.
If your store is serviced by T-ROC, you would need to reach out to T-ROC, but that is needed for buying postpaid phones with service activation only, where the T-ROC employee would need to enter their ID onto the WARP for service activation. For buying postpaid phones outright without service activation, any Walmart employee can sell them to you by choosing device only on the WARP. I have posted the instructions for WARP on the wiki of this thread.

Since the stock is limited, if you really need one or two for personal use, just buy whatever are available at your store with no service activation regardless of carrier. These iPhones are either factory unlocked or with US Reseller Flex Policy that will lock to the first US carrier inserted SIM, so just buy any you could find first with no service activation regardless of carrier and then buy the full Apple GSX report on eBay for $1 to find out the activation policy and sim-lock status.

You may also check the sim-lock status for free at sickw.com by choosing FREE - APPLE BASIC INFO.

If you need further help, reply back and post the full Apple GSX report here, including the part number MTxxxLL/A found on the box. Good luck to all, and please be nice to each other. We are here to help each other. hug

I ordered 2 and got the email confirmation one Verizon one AT&T. I'm thinking I should get the AT&T one so it works on Cricket? I don't want it to be locked so if it locks to Cricket do I call AT&T or Verizon? Only 64GB available, was hoping to find a 256.
AT&T, if you have Cricket you are good to go.

I already did the gsx report. The two max are fully unlocked. The plain ca is under flex policy. When I got them I did Verizon just wonder if it matters if putting in att sim I can request unlock after activation.

For the one with flex policy, yes, you can let it lock to AT&T and ask AT&T to unlock it. You may see error message like IMEI number doesn't match from AT&T; I can't remember the exact error message. Give it some time to get update from the Apple activation server because all iPhone activation policies are done and controlled by the Apple activation server. If it is already locked to Verizon due to Verizon SIM inserted and turned on, just wait for 60 days, and it will be automatically unlocked. It does not have to stay active on Verizon for the full 60 days. hug

Hey I saw your PM but seems like you have PM turned off so I couldn't reply.

This is regarding your question about the S20 fi deal.

Help!

I only saw one other post with a similar situation.

When the employee tried scanning the phone to check the price it came up as $399

Does that mean it's going to come up for $399 on the warp system too?

Picked up 4 XS Max Verizon 64 GB yesterday. They had four, I "reserved" all 4, they would only sell two when I showed up. Dept manager played dumb but did use WARP to sell outright. She was shocked at price when it finally rang up. My son went back two hours later to get the other two, she again played dumb and refused to sell them to him, told them they were on "hold". Son got store manager involved and left with the other two. My experience, these are unlocked phones. I was able to get them up and running on xfinity mobile with old sim cards. Good Luck all!

If you do a regular price check, such as through the Walmart app or POS system the regular price shows up, in this case, $399. But when you go through WARP, it will reduced in 1/2 which is $199 for the XS max phone. This is mentioned in the wiki, and also the reduced price doesn't show up till the phone is scanned in WARP, that's why most cell phones people and Walmart employees are surprised at the price once input the phone into WARP. Hope the help explains the price discrepancy.

Anybody know if the Sprint Xs will still work on T-mobile if its first boot is with a Sprint SIM?

Thanks

Another user said that those are probably unlocked version's but not postpaid (but full price and no contract) and that's why they were coming up that price.

Which got me confused.
