Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

I am getting the response from the Walmart rep that "its only $200 if you buy it as an installment plan". Anyone getting similar? Any tips for workaround?

Anybody know if the Sprint Xs will still work on T-mobile if its first boot is with a Sprint SIM?
If carrier sold under "US Flex Policy" (as is the case with Best Buy, for instance), it will lock to the first US SIM card inserted. So, if Sprint phone, and Cricket SIM is inserted, then it will lock to Cricket. After 6 months, unlock with Cricket (Cricket's policy for unlock is 6 months).

Replace "Cricket" in above example with any other carrier.

This thread has 35 pages yet it has no thumbs up ONLY because individuals are unable to get it for whatever reason ( sold out at Walmart, rep giving customer a hard time when technically they have no right to)

if you go there to pick up a phone, and you are not a current sprint / verizon / att customer, do you have to sign a contract to obtain the new line (credit hit ,etc) or can you sign up for a plan without any contract on one of those services and cancel the same month, for example? You are paying full price, and not relying on any carrier financing here...so..? thanks!
When you go pick up the phone. They will ask is this upgrade/new line? If you don't hear the buy device only. Tell them you want to buy device only. The device only cost $200. This situation if you encounter a wireless rep. I'm not sure about Walmart employee knowledgeable to do this. Other poster have a yes/no deal done through Walmart employee.

It will automatically lock to the first SIM that is inserted into it. For instance, if the first SIM inserted is ATT, it will lock to ATT.
Are you saying xs or XS max? I checked my Mac is unlocked though. Does your saying still apply to my max?

Got a call from a store I reserved at about an hour away. Guy was super helpful on the phone with questions, but was adamant about requiring activation on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint.

I might just jump through the hoops because they're worth it. Unfortunately only 64gb was available. Wish I could have gotten a 256. If anyone wants to be generous, let me know! Lol.

Any thoughts?

Did you try using different SIMs on it? Did you buy a Sprint phone? It depends on teh policy on what it is sold.

Many large retailers stock iphones under "US Flex Policy". This way the retailers can attach any SIM card (Verizon, Sprint, etc) on top of the phone so it will lock to whatever SIM that is first inserted. This policy helps retailers minimize the phones they have in stock as opposed to having separate stock for all the carrier brands.

When ? During reservation on website? (I'm not sure if that option was presented. I just remember the price being $199). At pickup? Thanks!
Go to the store. The rep will likely to force a contract or something similar. But you have the right to pay in full($199 for max, $99 for xs).

Just tell em you want device purchase only.

Fighting with the cell phone guy now. Manager just told him to walk away.

The guy says "I don't care what the sign says I won't sell you a phone without a financed contract."

Manager selling me 2 phones now.

You can buy a report online at ebay for $1 once you give the IMEI. Alternatively, if you call Apple and give them the iMEI, for FREE, they will tell you the policy of the phone and whether it is US Flex policy or unlocked.

I never activate it. All I do is using the imei checker on all 3 us carriers to see the unlocked status. All are compatible to corresponding carrier's network. Not sure if this can be called as "unlocked"

Seems the only way to find out if the phone is under US FLEX POLICY is to get a report from eBay?
