If your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) is less than 72k the IRS Free file program may work for you.

https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-f...s-for-free

Try Credit Karma Tax software as well. Its free and works well. As long as you didn't move, you can file your federal and state taxes via CreditKarma.

https://www.creditkarma.com/tax

Credit Karma Tax—is it really free?
Yes! Credit Karma Tax is always 100% free. It's $0 to file both state and federal tax returns. Even if you're taking deductions or credits, it won't cost you a penny, ever
.

Free Tax USA is also another free federal tax software

https://www.freetaxusa.com/

H&R Block Tax Software Deluxe + State 2020 with Refund Bonus Offer (Amazon Exclusive)

Includes:
  • 1 federal program with 5 FREE federal e-files
  • 1 state program (additional personal state programs are 39.95 dollars each)
  • Most personal state programs available in January; release dates vary by state
  • State e-file available for 19.95 dollars (state e-file not available in NH and fees do not apply to NY state returns)

Careful on what version you buy!!!
The below only applies to the CD/Download version. The Block Online packages of the same name have limited forms compared to the Cd version.

There is much confusion about versions as to what does what and I thought I'd post this to try to clear things up. Many believe that you need Premium or better if you are self employed or have rental income. That is not true. Self employment income and even LLCs along with rental income can be done with Deluxe or Basic. If you get to, corporations, Scorps and Partnerships you will need higher versions

Block likes to upsell you on the versions and there are almost outright deceptive marketing, wording and charts that cause much confusion about what version does what. Deluxe or even Basic will do the vast majority of returns even quite complicated ones.

Many mistakenly believe based on the charts and wording that Block puts out that you need Premium for things such as Schedule C, D & E. Deluxe handles all those forms but if you go by a chart or version picker on Block's site you will be guided to the higher version.

Here is the full list of supported forms for Deluxe CD/Download version
You will see it is a quite extensive list and it will handle the vast majority of returns of your average taxpayers. The bolded text is just showing the most common forms but everything on the list is supported

It's cheaper at Circuitcity.com. I don't know why this thread didn't get any traction. I bought from this thread:
https://slickdeals.net/f/14789620-h-r-block-2020-tax-software-business-35-premium-26-or-deluxe-state-17?v=1

H&R Block Deluxe + State - $16.99 + FS (starting on 1/23)
H&R Block Premium - $25.99 + FS (starting on 1/23)
H&R Block Premium & Business- $35 + FS (starting on 1/23)
NOTE: As of 01/25/21 there is no free shipping at Circuit City.

Too bad the 3.5% "Amazon GC bonus" does not exceed the 5% savings of using the "Amazon Prime credit card"... If someone is looking to get the max $5175 amazon GC bonus back, please get a prime card instead.
I personally hate that concept. My solution for the past few years have been to print out everything, sign it, and then certify mail it to the State. Takes about a week for my refund to process State wise, so I only lose about $2 overall compared to $20 doing e-file.
You have the option of having some or all your refund come in the form of an Amazon gift card. If, say, you decide to have $200 of your refund use this promotion , you will receive a $207 Amazon gift card.

This program used to be a lot more generous with a 10% bonus. It seemingly drops every year.

Thanks OP! Mind boggling the download costs more. Nearly matches FP price (off by $1) in late Dec and don't want to miss out, but also want to use my free shipping codes. Decisions...

well, both versions is download the program.

the difference is that it's cheaper to mail you the PHYSICAL KEY CARD with activation code.
instead of just emailing it to you

I don't think you can use free shipping credits on this version because it's not sold by Amazon Digital Services (or whatever they call it)

Same. I'm sure Amazon is well aware of all of the people who have been hoarding those credits in anticipation of tax software codes, which is why no deals have been made available.

Why get this instead of FreeTaxUSA? If you're guaranteed a tax refund of $650 or more then maybe a good deal.

The additional $20 to efile state is a negative. But wouldnt the 3.5% return on the federal refund more than make up for it - unless I'm missing a catch here
