Take that with a grain of salt or not, but if you don't find them on the rating sites for "top VPNs of 2020, 2021, 2022 etc., I can tell you that it's not because they are not worth it.
Before the pandemic I would have to travel to about 9-12 countries per year, and Windscribe never let me down. Easy interface, quick and stable connection, and also no logs being kept.
I was lucky to get a lifetime a few years ago, and they have been getting better and better. Since that's not being offered anymore, this is a great deal imho.
Windscribe has worked great for me when I was in China and in Russia.

I've found that since they made that change, some servers become overloaded more quickly, though it still doesn't happen often, at least for me.
I believe you still technically can choose a server somehow but it's nowhere near as easy as it used to be, which was just clicking on a country and selecting the best server by server load. They also no longer show the server load as a % either.
I believe on Mac one of the categories does have a server list but they show you the server load as colored bars (green, yellow, or red) instead of by percentage.
Going to look into windscribe, it's been a while since I've seen a good deal on a VPN.
You do realize that many other **quality** VPN providers charge a lot more right?
Nord, which I use, gets good reviews but the best "deal" I've seen for them in a while is $89 for only 2 years.
ExpressVPN, which to my knowledge also has good reviews, costs even more than Nord.
With the current pricing of their competitors, this seems like a great deal, assuming their service is on par with other providers.

I haven't used it in over a year (my Windscribe subscription expired last year) and was gifted ExpressVPN (which is great for geolocation and speed, in my experience, better then Windscribe, but it absolutely costs more)
I have had NO issue with Windscribe for price, and even at this price (and I'm one of the idiots kicking myself for not getting Lifetime when I could have)
but:
My cc's and whatnot go to my accountant in a different state/country I am in (I travel a lot or did before the pandemic), and I have never used Windscribe in my billing zip code ever. It wasn't a problem for me.
