Yes, unfortunately that seems to be the way they are going.

They would also have to prevent a way of opening a previous file with a new installation by import/export. Otherwise, you can just keep creating new accounts with the teaset new installer versions and creating new accounts. They have no compunction in doing anything and everything.

Comcast and Intuit are the world's worst companies for me in doing greedy debauchery even when they don't need to.

Since they have no competition for a computer based version that can also do online downloads, and the barrier to entry for newcomers is very high...

quicken is not owned by Intuit anymore. It is a company on it's own now. After breaking out from Intuit, new company started this subscription doohickery instead of being one time purchase.

There's other options, but honestly they all come up short. Some cost as much and still do less. Free options may be ok for many, but are very basic and wouldn't work for me. For now I'm sticking with Quicken, got another years renewal sitting in a drawer and have a couple years before I'll need to make a decision.

I wonder why it says "CD/DVD drive is optional" if it's a DVD. Digital version included I guess. Why even bother sending the DVD then? Just interesting!

You can download instead and use the code on the box to register if you don't have a DVD player.

The DVD is better for those that don't have a good Internet connection or want a physical copy for archival. So, it serves both purposes.

That is clearly marked for "New Subscribers" only. Those who want to renew should use the physical media version. Not sure why Quicken is doing this, but my gut feel is they will be phasing out any ability to renew through a physical product and only go with online renewals (at a higher cost obviously). So now down a path of product only for New Subscribers labeled clearly (and discounted to bring on new users) and let old inventory run out.

Yes, anything not explicitly marked new subscribers only can be used to extend existing subscription. But note that you can only extend in the last 6 months of an existing subscription and the codes in currently available software will expire for renewal sometime in 2022.

To be fair, I have little problem with the company evolving their product into an honest service (at this historical point it is too late to wring our hands over this trend). My problem is that under a guise of a "service" you get the same crappy product from decades ago that - aside from other failures - fails magnificently at one somewhat essential task of not farking up your data file. So, unlike Office of Creative Cloud that keep evolving and improving every iteration, there is no fair value exchange in case of Quicken (which prompted me to stop using it).

If you don't need the download features find a copy of 2017 or earlier and use to your heart's content. You can track your investments/Bank accounts in Personal Capital online for free. I wouldn't give a dime to these thieves

I tried that because I have an older version I purchased via download. But unless I did something wrong the installation process ends up at the login for Intuit and obviously intuit doesn't own it any longer. So it's kind of a brick wall to finish installation. It's been awhile since I did this but that's how I recall it ending up.

There is no sale price that would make this product ever worth buying. Picked up the deluxe two weeks ago on sale and spent the weekend adding accounts and what not. It's so outdated and takes 20 steps to do a simple task. Painful. If you need to use it then you are familiar with it already. Can't recommend to new users.

Office Depot and Best Buy are now matching this price and also have Premier and Home and Business versions at up to 40% discount. Have updated the OP.
