1. Horrible customer service. The owner, Ken, seems to just run everything himself. He is not cordial, or prompt in his responses (often had to email 2-3x before a response). He falsely advertised a fingerprint reader in my current laptop, and when I said it doesn't have one, his response was essentially, "oops, typo."
2. It took over a month to get my computer when there were not parts shortages. Expect to wait a while even once this computer becomes available.
3. I tried using the cash discount and paying by CC last time. The order went through, but Ken contacted me asking, "so you're going to send me a wire transfer or money order?" even though I had clearly already paid, and forced me to cancel my order and re-order.
Edit: This is all to say, while not the ABSOLUTE worst experience one could have, I'd be pretty hesitant to order from GenTech again.
Pros don't do this on a small scale basis for a reason. They do it on rigs with multiple GPUs per motherboard. They just care about yields, not the longevity/condition of the parts. If you're going to be using this laptop for personal use + maybe even some business, mining on it for the entirety of the time it's not in use otherwise maybe isn't the best idea...

Max q is anywhere from 60-70, and max p anywhere from 80-115
Called gentechpc yesterday asking and he said they haven't seen it yet but from what gigabyte sent out it was 115w but take that with a grain of salt.
Edit: Keep in mind max p can mean 90 tdp now and if you look at clevo 3060 laptops the same chassis or very close are using 90w 3060s.
Edit2: should mention that the clevos use intel and apparently ryzen has more thermal headroom so tdp could still be 115 who knows

Also no tax to where I am in Nevada, which makes this deal better than basically any deal I expect to ever see for any of these laptops - basically 10%+ off with no tax + the 2% edu student discount code + 8% cashback on my debit card + a free ~$50-100 in thermal paste/pad applications - unbelievable deal for a 3070 Max P, which is exactly what I was hoping to get.
Also, I emailed the guy and he mentioned estimated shipping time was about 2 weeks for the 3070 version. Truly nuts.
With ethereum mining, this laptop should pay for itself. The 3060 Max P seems like it might hit 48 MH/s, which is crazy if true, which would make about $140/mo right now with Ethereum at all time highs https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth?HashingPower=48&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumpt... [cryptocompare.com]
And the 3070 Max P might hit 55-60 MH/s, which would give up to $170/mo.
Either one should pay for the machine itself in about a year of mining - and then you just have a world class gaming laptop for free. Mindblowing - truly the best time in all of history to get a world class gaming PC.
Which debit card did you get 8% back on?
Somewhat agree with laptop mining, but I'm sure you can fiddle with the settings such that the heat isn't too overwhelming. It doesn't seem there is as much power going into the mobile cards? It'll at least be a neat project for me, but there are certainly risks associated with it.
Regarding desktop mining, I run a 3090 without issue 90% of the day and don't have any problems with it. I understand the fears, but I've done mining in the past with AMD/NVidia with cards I kept for years and no issue. The $8k in BTC/BCH earned from trading in LTC that was mined over 4-5 months years ago was worth the first foray into mining. IF ETH ever did jump in price to something crazy like $10k, a month and a half of mining would cover the laptop. If you just ran a miner while surfing the net or doing some other tasks that didn't require much from the card, there is some value there.
You really need to do both for when you land on the wrong side for the GME options you buy... can't believe it was up 20% on Friday still... lol
Hoping everyone in it is still making money! š¤š¤
