1. Horrible customer service. The owner, Ken, seems to just run everything himself. He is not cordial, or prompt in his responses (often had to email 2-3x before a response). He falsely advertised a fingerprint reader in my current laptop, and when I said it doesn't have one, his response was essentially, "oops, typo."
2. It took over a month to get my computer when there were not parts shortages. Expect to wait a while even once this computer becomes available.
3. I tried using the cash discount and paying by CC last time. The order went through, but Ken contacted me asking, "so you're going to send me a wire transfer or money order?" even though I had clearly already paid, and forced me to cancel my order and re-order.
Edit: This is all to say, while not the ABSOLUTE worst experience one could have, I'd be pretty hesitant to order from GenTech again.
Pros don't do this on a small scale basis for a reason. They do it on rigs with multiple GPUs per motherboard. They just care about yields, not the longevity/condition of the parts. If you're going to be using this laptop for personal use + maybe even some business, mining on it for the entirety of the time it's not in use otherwise maybe isn't the best idea...

After reading some more the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut is probably the best and trying to update order to Conductonaut + IC Diamond.

Also, anyone have any idea what's up with these laptops? I can't seem to find the laptop anymore on gigabyte's official site and they seem to have deleted their press release announcing this exact laptop. Very weird. G5 and aorus and all the other laptops still there, just not this one 🤔
Which debit card did you get 8% back on?
Somewhat agree with laptop mining, but I'm sure you can fiddle with the settings such that the heat isn't too overwhelming. It doesn't seem there is as much power going into the mobile cards? It'll at least be a neat project for me, but there are certainly risks associated with it.
Regarding desktop mining, I run a 3090 without issue 90% of the day and don't have any problems with it. I understand the fears, but I've done mining in the past with AMD/NVidia with cards I kept for years and no issue. The $8k in BTC/BCH earned from trading in LTC that was mined over 4-5 months years ago was worth the first foray into mining. IF ETH ever did jump in price to something crazy like $10k, a month and a half of mining would cover the laptop. If you just ran a miner while surfing the net or doing some other tasks that didn't require much from the card, there is some value there.
Also no tax to where I am in Nevada, which makes this deal better than basically any deal I expect to ever see for any of these laptops - basically 10%+ off with no tax + the 2% edu student discount code + 8% cashback on my debit card + a free ~$50-100 in thermal paste/pad applications - unbelievable deal for a 3070 Max P, which is exactly what I was hoping to get.
Also, I emailed the guy and he mentioned estimated shipping time was about 2 weeks for the 3070 version. Truly nuts.
With ethereum mining, this laptop should pay for itself. The 3060 Max P seems like it might hit 48 MH/s, which is crazy if true, which would make about $140/mo right now with Ethereum at all time highs https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth?HashingPower=48&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumpt... [cryptocompare.com]
And the 3070 Max P might hit 55-60 MH/s, which would give up to $170/mo.
Either one should pay for the machine itself in about a year of mining - and then you just have a world class gaming laptop for free. Mindblowing - truly the best time in all of history to get a world class gaming PC.

Step 1: Create a wallet or account on an exchange with an address you can send your earnings to. I used My Ethereum Wallet and created a wallet on my phone. https://www.myetherwall
Step 2: Find a pool to mine with. I'm using etherpool https://ethermine.org/
Step 3: Set-up miner with wallet/exchange address. I'm using phoenixminer https://bitcointalk.org/index.php...=26
Step 4: Use a program like afterburner to fine tune GPU for mining. Using google, you should be able to see what other people are using for settings to maximize hashrate.

If you're more technically inclined, I have one of my systems running Ubuntu instead of hiveos so I can also dual use it as a Plex media server and a couple other things as well, and the easiest solution there I hear is using nanopool and nanominer - which is also what you should use if you're on windows as the easiest solution.
What I ended up using on Ubuntu was ethminer, which normally works the best with no dev fees, and I joined the ethermine pool (1% fees) from there. This was more involved as ethminer's latest binary release from 2019 doesn't support CUDA 11.1, which is what the new rtx 3000 cards are on. However, a few months ago a pr was merged to master in the github repo that adds CUDA 11.1 support (a trivial thing, actually) - so all you have to do is build ethminer from source on the latest version of the master branch and it'll work flawlessly. Pretty easy on Linux, a little more involved on windows.
If you don't mind not using your machine for anything else while mining and dual booting, I'd recommend going with hiveos.
