Gas Stations, Wholesale Clubs and Select Streaming Services
You activated to earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Gas Stations, Wholesale Clubs and Select Streaming Services from April 1–June 30, 2021, on up to $1,500 in purchases.

You activated to earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Gas Stations (stand-alone), Wholesale Clubs and Select Streaming Services from 4/1/21 (or the date on which you activate 5%, whichever is later) through 6/30/21, on up to $1,500 in purchases. Purchases made at Gas Stations include only merchants in the category that sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station. Gas Stations affiliated with supermarkets and supercenters may not be eligible. Check with your Wholesale Clubs to make sure your Discover card is accepted. Purchases of affiliated Wholesale Club services, such as delivery services, travel and cell phone purchases, may not be eligible in this category. Individual merchants and stand-alone stores within physical Wholesale club locations, or online, may not be eligible in this category. Select Streaming Services purchases include only the following select U.S. streaming subscriptions: Apple Music, Apple TV+, AT&T TV Now, BET+, CBS All Access, DAZN, Disney +, ESPN+, Fubo TV, Google Play Movies & TV, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Philo, Peacock TV, Showtime, Sirius XM, Starz, Sling, Spotify, Vudu, YouTube TV. If your subscription is bundled with another product or service, billed by a third party (such as a digital platform, a cable or satellite provider, telecommunications, internet provider or a car manufacturer), the purchase may not be eligible in this category. Add-ons associated with Select Streaming Services may not qualify for this promotion if they are not listed, billed in a bundle, separately or through a third party. Listed merchants are in no way sponsoring or affiliated with this program.

Costco accepts Discover online. You can use it to buy Costco Cash cards. Boom, easy $75 right there.
People are really undervaluing and failing to take advantage of Discover card benefits. These cards have no yearly fee and taking advantage of the 5% categories is pretty simple.
Even with the Amazon Visa 5%, the frequency of "pay with points" deals on Amazon is plentiful. You can use as little as one point to get $10,$20 or even $30 off certain purchases. This alone, justifies having this no fee card.
The 5% categories are excellent when they are for gas stations, ( IIRC, the best gas card only offers 4%), wholesale clubs, and streaming services. And even though I have the Amazon card, I will use the Discover card when the 5% category is Amazon, just to boost my points.
If you have the Amex Blue Cash Preferred, use it on all grocery stores (6%), streaming services (6%) prepaid toll replenishment (3%) and gas stations (3%), rotating in the 5% cards when they are for gas stations.
Same for Chase Freedom. This seems like a lot of work but it's really just building a habit that becomes second nature over time.
To make things easier, I use a label maker, and at the beginning of each year I put small labels on each 5% card, detailing the categories for each quarter. With the labels on cards you can't really go wrong.

Only thing to make this better would be updating the "Discover" graphic as it's way too low resolution.

I have a note in my phone that's lists all my cards with bonuses and features like no foreign transaction fees.
Discover and chase freedom usually offset similar categories so having both really helps. My BoA card is setup for 3% online so anything that's not Amazon goes through that one.

I need to start keeping track of which has rental, price protection, and extended warranty since that seems to be on its way out.
I also created a table in Excel/Sheets with my credit cards as row headers, the cashback value % and quarter breakdowns. I print it out, fold it in half into a card shape, and "laminate it" with mailing tape to keep in my wallet with the credit cards to help me remember which card to use at checkout so I can maximize my CB. You just need to do this once a year - takes 5 minutes.

Yes, you can, and use the GC at both Samsclub & Walmart. No fee for GC.

if you buy a $1500 sams club gc online be prepared for a nightmare!

you've been warned.
Agree, many have reported issues with gift card activation from samsclub.com. I bought a $1000 Sams GC online in Dec during a similar Discover 5% promo, but the activation link sent via email didn't work & it took me a month to get the GCs activated properly. Issue is that Customer Service (In store or Online) cannot help but just crease a support ticket. Case needs to be escalated to the back office (no phone contact) and they resolve the issue via email 2-3 weeks later. Once they did contact me, the issue was resolved within a few hrs. The email used by the Gift card team was [email protected] in case anyone wants a quicker resolution.

maximizing your cash back is using your 2% all day every day anywhere anytime credit card for all b&m purchases regardless. otherwise, you're using a gc. Wink

at this point, i'm 85% online and 15% pos when it comes to swipes or 97% online and 3% pos when it comes to $$$. the few times i'm in the latter category don't make a dent in the calculations and it wouldn't matter if i paid cash.

This is a decent deal for free money. Agree discover lost some cred when they got rid of the extended warranty and discover deals, but at 5% it will be my go to for sams club in store/online, costco online and gas stations. As stated, don't buy things that need the extended warranty (ie expensive tech, etc) coverage, but everything else is free money. For instance get some tires (costco online or sams either place) and use a bunch of it in one transaction.

Also with the sams app, you can make the discover the default for scan and go and you don't have to remember anything else or even bring the card.

Does anyone else get the following error when trying to access the cashback calendar:

Oops. Something went wrong.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but the rewards calendar is not working at this time. Please check again later.

Go to Account Center

I've tried a bunch of times, even attempted to message but only got a bot, and I am unable to get to the calendar. Tried two different browsers as well.

Yes! Same here.

Why not? Depending on your cash flows, spending the cap on GC's is an easy way to capture the full 5% and not risk forgetting about it. You can buy GC's for just about anything - including gas, phone services (necessities). Now would I go and blow $6k on GC's I don't really NEED to use otherwise (e.g. restaurants), no. Other the holidays with all the promos on Amazon, I'd just use a promo to maximize the return while buying Amazon GC's, then just add to my account. Granted I'm not talking about several thousand $$ in Amazon GC, but I'm going to spend it through the course of the year anyway.

In my example, our Disney trip is going to cost around $5500 - now I could pay that outright, or take the extra step of buying GC's and getting 5% back on $4500 of that (3 cards) and save $225. I'm paying the whole amount anyway, why not save *something*. People that frequent Disney routinely do this with Target RedCard to get 5% on Disney GC @ Target, FWIW.

I also recall a time, way back when Discover started this promo, and the limits were higher, where I needed to have some major dental work done. The Discover promo ended in March and the dental work was the following month, so I called them to prepay the entire thing (like $3k IIRC) just to get the 5% back via Discover. Why not?

(and the above would change if I anticipated carrying a balance, which I never do, so using a CC isn't going to cost me more than trying to pay cash)

The only caveat to that is one loses on Costco card benefits and also Costco cashback on it's card.

Same with Amazon... Any gift cards from Amazon eat into the Amazon 5% cashback for prime members

you can always get amazon gc with minimum 5% discount when you use your store card or amazon chase card. no one should ever pay full price for amazon gcs.

When they enable the 5% cash back on Amazon purchases in Oct - Dec I max that out every time. Then get $75 to spend later. That quarter alone makes my Discover worth it for me.
