The Osmo will not operate without installing DJI's Mimo app. The Mimo app *requires* that you create an account and upload data about your phone to their server as part of an "activation" process. The Mimo app demands location information (on both Android and iOS) and refuses to run unless you agree to these terms.
This is a completely unacceptable privacy violation.
I bought the camera. I should be able to use it without having to "activate" it first - especially when the activation is a privacy nightmare.

Did a cross country trip with this. Quality is good but you'll have a tough time with battery and storage for media. Our vacation probably took almost half a terabyte but I do film in 4k. Luckily I brought my computer along and had extra space. Otherwise I'd have to have bought another 256gb card or two. Lots of cool features and camera quality is on par with some previous year's flagship phones.

The 2nd generation has some improvements but also I've read that it requires you to install a smartphone app and register an account with them before they enable the camera! So that might be a dealbreaker for some.
