I got one of these last time they were sale for my standing desk to replace an ikea solid wood top that I was using.

Wanted it because it was longer than the ikea top, but note this is also not as deep as the ikea solid wood desktops.

If you have big monitors (that are deep), this may not be deep enough for your liking because the keyboard ends up right against the front of the monitor stand base

I had considered this but the 24" depth was a no go for me unless i wanted to add a keyboard tray.

The only premade solid wood countertop I found that's 30" deep is this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Sparrow-...5001523805

I just bought the 60"x30" last week along with a 48"x25". The quality is very nice but the wood is unfinished so keep that in mind. I routered the hard 90* edges off with a 1/8th round over bit and finished with polyurethane and put them on monoprice standing desk frames.

Edit: here is a picture of the finished product.

Thanks for the link! Any reason you went with this over the Ikea Gerton? Seems like this one is a bit thicker but Gerton is cheaper. Seems to be beech is slightly more regarded over hevea, as well.

I bought a longer version as part of the full husky work bench. Its definitely solid. I paid $285 for the 8' bench for those who are interested.

I probably didn't see it since I needed 2 matching tops for 2 desks and unless I'm missing it, not seeing a smaller version of the Gerton (around 48"x24"). That and it's not in stock.

I do agree that beech wood should be nicer than rubberwood, but I can't compare the two tops without seeing the ikea one. That said the rubberwood is way above my expectation. I liked the raw finish so much I skipped staining and just went with 3 thin coats of poly.

I've bought this to use as a desktop just over a year ago and love it. I just have it sitting on top of two Ikea drawer unit, with some non-skid drawer liner between them. The top has never moved an inch. There are screw holes underneath to attach to some kind of workbench, but they don't interfere in any way. It's heavy, solid, super smooth, easy to clean and works perfectly for my purposes.

(With that said, as you can see, I paid $123 for it back in December 2019 and I've looked it up a few times since then when considering buying another for an actual garage work bench and it's been $123 each and every time.)

any good deal on wider top? This one is only 24" a bit too narrow for my need.

Someone posted a link to lowes with 72"x30". That and homedepot seem to have the same type of wood, which is rubberwood. Or you can go wider and more expensive with this one.

7-foot is only $30 more, just FYI. The 6-foot is still a better deal per sq ft.

^yeah - 24" depth is not ideal. Probably need at least 29" (which seems to be a common depth for some desks).
I disagree with this statement. I have 27" + 24" dual monitor setup on my IKEA Karlby (25.5" deep) for my standing desk for a year now and it's been perfectly fine, both when I had the monitor stands on my desk and when I got monitor arms eventually. Plenty of room for my keyboard and mouse. Just have the monitor stands be close to the back of the desk and there's zero issues.

I recommend 27" or more width, if you are planning to use it as a tabletop (for your work desk).

Gerton is one of the ones that's going to get discontinued/replaced soon. Been trying to buy one here in IL but they've been sold out and a guy at IKEA told me that they're getting replaced

Looks like a great deal. I was originally looking for a nice solid top from Ikea, but I guess they don't make those anymore.
I was bummed to find this out, too. We have some of the original solid oak they used to sell. Couldn't find a better deal anywhere. If I'm not mistaken, the new stuff is hollow.
