I'd be thrilled with 50mbps, over the moon with 100mbps. Now Musk claims that starlink speeds will hit 300mbps by end of the year.

I haven't read the whole thread but just thought i would let anyone thinking about starlink know what my experience has been. I'm in upstate NY and received my kit about 2 weeks ago. I waited about 1 week for it to ship. It does not come with a roof mount. I had to order that for $24 and it took 3 weeks to arrive after I realized there was no roof mount. In the meantime I used the tripod that it came with to set it up on my porch roof. I thought maybe it would be too low or obstructed but it's working great. I've had speeds of anywhere from 100 to a max of 169 so far. We've gone from trying to use a cellular router from att that works half the time to actual high speed that's faster than the cable I have at my business. It has only lost service once that I noticed and it was back online in less than 30 seconds. Hope this helps.

Received mine today.
5 minutes to setup.
100x better than what I had before.
I'm impressed.

Good for you! Starlink is the future of internet for rural communities!
P.s. May even be the future of internet. Period. Wait till our handsets can connect to the satellites! That'll be a sight to see!

I've had it for a couple months in WA state. I am really happy, the best option I could get before was 6mbps down for $50 per month, now I get up to 200 for $100 per month. Usually around 75. I have a couple mins downtime per day that gets lower the more satellites he puts up.
*They. But granted.

Here's an article about an interview with the SpaceX president. Discussion on pricing, equipment, etc.

Luckily sprint hasn't said my $15 unlimited tablet plan that I use easytether with and a GL.iNET GL-MT300N mini router is excessive and I use around 650gb a month.
What is the topology of this? Tablet getting cell signal and plugged into the GL.iNET then the mini router rebroadcasts the wifi?

Yes it gets me around the 10gb hotspot limit and I have the GL.iNET plugged into a 5 port switch that provides internet for 2 computers and a pi and the wifi from it provides internet for a fire tv and several other devices

Interesting. I use PDANet for a lot of this, wonder if I did a phone with cell service, plugged into the GL.iNET with PDANet or Easytether running, then output to an ethernet switch or throw out wifi from there. That's a pretty great plan.

A friend went live last week with pretty good service in California's central Sierra Nevada. 181Mbps down, 21.2Mbps up, ping 57ms, so about 40ms additional latency.

That's actually pretty legit

It IS NOT heated. This has been debunked already on /r/starlink.
They absolutely are heated, where they need to be. A good friend of mine in MI got one almost two months ago and it IS heated to remove ice and snow. He said ice build up under the unit as it drips.

SpaceX also announced today the entire planet will be covered within a year. Polar launches start this summer.

No. Other than possibly getting in before an area has too many customers and gets closed to new signups.

If you have a "better" option, best to stick with that. Fiber is preferable in most cases, that isn't an option for most I know, so I'm still waiting, my area isn't "on" yet (signed up immediately last year, prepaid almost 2 months ago). Only thing I'd like is a newer version of the hardware since it's been pretty much the same most of the beta so far (it would be nice if the cord could detach to be replaced if needed, but a revision might not have that either).

Here's hoping Tmobile's 5G home internet turns out OK/usable.
I currently have Tmobile 5G home internet and reside in Antioch Il. $50/month, no complaints. I love it. Average download speed is 70 mbs, upload 68 mbs.
