This Laptop is highly rated, receiving a 4.5/5 Score from PC Mag.com calling it "one of the most powerful and best designed ultraportables you can buy".-slickdewmaster
FYI, this is two versions behind the current XPS 13 model. The version after this had a 10th gen 1065g7 i7 processor with Iris graphics. I still think this is a decent deal, but might not be as good if you want to do light gaming on this laptop.
10th gen "u" processor = 8th gen "u" processor on steroids. Basically u r paying 1 grand for 3 year old tech. Stay away if u can.
If you've got $1000 to spend on a laptop, the (fanless) base M1 MacBook Air will run circles around this thing with stellar battery life. The generational leap in CPU is genuinely nuts. Spring for 16GB if you can, but if you're a casual editor and mostly use office apps, the unified 8GB performs like 16GB now. Tons of videos about them on YouTube...

The G7 version isn't good for gaming either but it should perform better where hardware acceleration can be done. That being said, this one is 6 core (vs 4 core) and can turbos upto 4.7Ghz (vs 3.9Ghz). Model names are 7390 vs 9300 respectively.
Does anyone recommend this for photo editing/photography? Specifically the 13" screen? I plan on docking this to a larger monitor when at home, but when mobile is 13" to little for photo processing? Are there better deals on 15" XPS?
Wow, 16gb of RAM and the 4k screen. I guess people want to wait for the 11th gen processors?
Also the old, shitty version of Intel's integrated graphics.

Personal preference, but I have heard of people editing photos on the go with an iPad Pro, so the screen size should not inherently be a problem. I have seen deals from time to time on the Dell Outlet for refurbished 7590's with the 4k OLED screen/i7/discrete graphics for < $1100. If the 4k screen isn't a necessity, I got my XPS 9500/i7/1200p screen as refurb from the Outlet for $999 over Thanksgiving (albeit as a doorbuster deal).

This is touch screen which is glossy and doesn't get that bright. I prefer the non touch.
I need a work laptop pc. Been using an old thinkpad x1 carbon looking for an upgrade. This good for that?
Notebookcheck.net usually has reviews.
Use those and passmark to compare relative performance of your laptop to this.
Good depends on how much faster you want the new one.
...
11th gen cpu is about 35% faster cpu, 2x faster gpu than 10th gen.
But like any latest and greatest, it'll ALWAYS be faster than last year's....but cost more. Don't worry - look at the Relative performance between your current one and the new pc you buy vs price.

To be honest, my work upgrade me from a x1 carbon 5th Gen to this, I prefer the x1 carbon over this by a mile. The fan is running constantly, it's short on battery (2 hours), and lack of ports. If you can swing it, go for the x1 again.
Great machine at an amazing price.
Before you buy, be sure you understand the design differences
between the 13.3" and the more recent 13.4" XPS 13 series.

Do you think they will come out with AMD version? Been trying to wait out but wondering if I should jump and pick one up with Intel. Suggestions?
Not looking to game but for work and leisure. Would like long battery life as I am out and about.
