This is considered to be one of the best Arcteryx jackets for those who are fans of the dead birds.
It's comfortable in 40degree weather with activity. Toasty at 50. Known to shed heat well. It is the replacement to the venerated Atom LT because of this function: the duality of warmth but shedding warmth with activity. Much better per reviews in outdoor gear labs and etc
At time of deal posting 10 mediums in stock in black
>Now Proteus XL, XXL, Black L
Hope this helps someone. I would jump on this if I hadn't already purchased a month ago

The reviews both professional and individual for those owning both proton and atom, all speak to how their new go to is not the atom but the proton, although to be fair, they are built for different purposes.
Atom is for idle heat. People complain it warms too much with activity.
Proton is for staying warm yet dumping heat once you're active. That duality is just amazing engineering.
Proton LT is thicker than FL, hence I gave my temperature ratings. FL is plenty warm for me here in 40s to 50s in so cal. Can't imagine wanting a jacket that's any warmer like the Atom for me.

The rep names: Ethan and Carlos were willing, Anette and Joshua were not.
Arcteryx is one of the few brands that actually fits my body type.
a 29 waist and a 34 chest in a medium should feel like wearing a robe.

I have a 44 inch chest and wear a large. Their measurements on the site are pretty true to fit. I have an older gamma mx that is an xl and it fits loose.

What materials is this thing made out of? What makes it so "breathable"? Aside from the branding I can't seem to find any clear-cut explanation of what makes it so great beyond the jumble of marketing terms they have listed.
"Very nice, light and warm. Comparable to mountain hardware ghost whisper. I do think the mountain hardware has slightly more down fill. Be careful with jacket because it will rip easily if snagged. I prefer the matte finish of this compared to shiny finish of mountain hardware."
