For whatever reason, it only redeemed for 3 months for me. That is still 3 months free but I don't understand why I didn't get the full 6 months.

I had to enter credit card info, but looks like it went through for $0.

Edit to add:
Redeemed as 3 months for me, also, using an existing Apple ID that I had used to claim a 3 month trial in 2018.

It does work for 6months. Perhaps those of you who are getting 3months click on the default 3months trial window that opens when you open Music app. Instead close the 3month offer and go to "Account" then "Redeem" and paste the code sent by Best Buy. You will now get a confirmation for 6months trial.
