We're making changes to how Free users access LastPass across device types. LastPass offers access across two device types – computers (including all browsers running on desktops and laptops) or mobile devices (including mobile phones, smart watches, and tablets). Starting March 16th, 2021, LastPass Free will only include access on unlimited devices of one type

They are basically saying, stay happy with one type of device (computer or mobile) for free or here is the premium for discounted rate.

"Leading up to these changes, you can upgrade to Premium at a limited-time discounted rate of $2.25 per month, billed annually ($27 /year)."

I'm probably just going to opt for the family plan. Comes with 6 licenses and 3 of us are already using it, why not. With like 300 passwords stored, The thought of shifting to another provider seems like more trouble than is worth

bit warden has the option to host the database locally, I'm hosting mine on a RPI, so that will always be free.
KeyPass also functions the same.

Don't know if things changed but I switched from LastPass to Bitwarden a few years ago and it was easy. You just export the info from LastPass (a CSV file, if I'm not mistaken) and import it into Bitwarden.

That said, I applaud someone who is willing to pay for a tool they use. Value for value.
Applause

I've been using Keepass for years and keeping it on Dropbox for "sharing" between devices but honestly I wind up with a lot of "conflicted copy" crap even though I hardly ever make changes to it.

Is there a better "service" or app that would handle this more smoothly?

For what it is worth, you can export your LP account to other providers. Using Bitwarden as an example, since it's the most commonly mentioned in this thread...

Looks straightforward, just take OpSec into account for obvious reasons.

I got sick of lastpass filling the wrong fields and switched to 1Password a while ago. I got a family deal and now I am able to have passwords I share with my wife and a separate vault we share with our kids for Netflix and such. It has a great integration between our IOS phones, our windows pc, and several chrome books.

Years back, LastPass used to require a premium subscription to use it at all on mobile devices. I was surprised when they starting allowing mobile device use for free, as it removed a major reason to subscribe. But it was also $12/year back then. I'd still be a paying customer if they hadn't tripled the price.

I use Keepass as well. My home computer is the master copy, then I export the file to Google Drive when I update a password. KyPass on my iOS devices [apple.com] (Yes, $7 app, I know. Ouch).

Kee password manager extension to connect KeePass and Firefox [mozilla.org]

what would prevent Bitwarden from doing the same?
Lastpass premium changed from $12/year to free 3 years ago, this is more of user acquisition strategy
You can host your own Bitwarden instance. If you use their server, you run the risk of being charged eventually. Keep a local backup, and be prepared to host your own instance. Could probably get rent server access from AWS or MS for the same price as Lastpass, while being able to do other things besides just bitwarden... if you're technically inclined...

I had no problem paying $12 a year for it, might even have done $24 for one year. But $36 was ridiculous, especially when there was nothing I needed that wasn't in the free version.

And I have loads of free money sitting in my Google Play account as a result of competing surveys in Google Opinion Rewards, so it doesn't even cost me anything in real money. Maybe I will pay for one year and then examine Bitwarden as a replacement.
