Too many variables to consider, such as:

1) Speed of service
2) Distance of device from node
3) Max transmit rate from node to device

If you're using a WiFi 5 device, and you have a WiFi 5 mesh system, it could be just as fast or faster. WiFi 6 devices will connect to a WiFi 6 router like this at a higher transmit rate, but depending on the distance from node to device, overall throughput could be lower than if it was connected to a closer WiFi 5 mesh node.

But if you have a WiFi 6 mesh system, that rules above all at this point in time. You get max coverage and max transmit rates. Hopefully you have at least Gigabit service from your ISP to take advantage of it, because you'll be ISP limited at anything 500Mbps or less (that's where WiFi 5 systems max out).

How this compared to mesh wifi??
i have the RAX80 in the 2nd story closet of a 2840 sq ft home. i get full bars throughout the whole house, until i go to the front or backyard, where it dips to 2 bars on the driveway. I think the signal weakens going through external building materials, otherwise it's great

Serious question. Why buy this verses a mesh network for $300?

citan359 I'm on gigabit fiber, 3 story/ 3000 sq ft. with the router on the middle floor on one side of the house. Can easily get the second story office on the far corner with only dropping one bar. Speeds have been great

After buying the sams r7850 or whatever it was and having the internet drop almost daily, I think I'm done with netgear for routers. Costco warranty could make it possibly worth it. When I called netgear, they wanted me to pay the price of the router for 1 year support and double for 2 years. F that noise.

If I was going to get the costco AX6200 RAX 78 for $230, I'd rather pay $42 more and get the AX6000 RAX 80 with dual USB 3 ports and one additional LAN port.

Costco should offer more being a membership fee store.

Tri-band is useful if you have 5ghz network saturation. It's 2 x 5ghz and 1 x 2.4ghz. If you have many streaming tv's and computers, for example.

It doesn't help with coverage area. You do mesh networking for that.
Maybe you replied to the wrong comment, but this person wanted better wired ports to go along with the fancy wifi features. I'm with them, 2.5 Gbps LAN ports would be nice.

$230 paperweight.

Netgear routers are trash and will always be trash.
I'm not a fan either after trying to install a VPN DNS on the 7900 model. Figured out that it doesn't work like I wanted to, and after paying nearly $200, I'm against purchasing another Netgear router. This will work for your basic users.

Well, it's $70 cheaper so that's a decent reason to start, but also this router might perform better depending on what mesh setup you're looking at (and your needs). My house is only 3400 sqft, so I don't have coverage issues with one good router (using an older Nighthawk model). If you live in a good-sized house and one router just won't cut it for coverage then some of the mesh options become more appealing, otherwise you're just adding more devices for no benefit.

I returned a Wifi 6 router, due to having to manually reboot it daily, sometimes multiple times.

Many times a device would show it was Connected but had no internet, and come to find out no IP address assigned - when the day before it was working perfectly.

That was a Linksys, and I've yet to replace it due to almost all the other name brand Wifi 6 routers having similar issues, and older devices not playing nice when AX band is enabled.

I went back to an older Nighthawk AC router that gives me no problems at all. I'll probably wait to buy a Wifi 6e router as soon as a cheaper than $400-500 model drops.

Seems like an average house with an upstairs, main level, lower level/basement. I guess depending on where you live this is big, but most houses in the suburbs of most cities are between 2000-3000 sq ft.

Nice to see tri-band routers are starting to come down. And I'm definitely painting a red accent over the thing if I get it
with WiFi 6e, all routers have to be triband, maybe we'll see quad band? One for 2.4, one for 5ghz, one for 6ghz

Had the previous RAX75 , internet would consistently drop , but when it worked super fast internet speeds and great coverage but not worth the problems.Changed to the Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh and all the problems went away.
