Purchased this exact model last BF. It has a horrible, non-backlit keyboard and even worse trackpad. You can hear the plastic infrastructure of this machine creak when you type. It is that flimsy. The battery life is horrible. It also sometimes makes a slight burning smell when I push it - keeps making me think I am having a stroke.

Now, with all the above being said. It is light and high performing. I have had 2 browsers with dozens of tabs running in the background and started a RAM hog game with no problem. So, you can multitask to your heart's content and this thing will not be fazed.

I just feel like every day I use it might be its last.

I'm quoting you, but not directing the message at you, mgng.

None of these companies makes computers. Manufacturing is outsourced to the lowest bidder and other than features specific to a manufacturer they are nearly all the same computers. Some models are cheaper than others, but I find that even that is not an indication of value.

One of the reasons I LOVE SlickDeals is that I can get insight from people who have purchased the product as well as a fair understanding of the value of a product. Much more than I could ever understand from which company brand is on it. Even more than what the specs are.

Take this as my way of saying THANK YOU! Not just to the OP, but to all of you who share your experience with a product, and all of you who share other insights on the value as compared to other products.

THANK YOU ALL

I think this is a great price for a thin-and-light. Who is the OEM?

I've had over the years laptops from Gateway, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, Sony, and since I did not abuse them, they worked and lasted until I got rid of them.

Sounds like one should throw it on a USB dock with monitors and a keyboard and just keep it there.

Not usb-c though since this wouldn't support a dock through its C port.

It doesn't matter if "they" make it or where it's made. Different companies have different expectations of quality that they direct toward their manufacturers, just like they would if they made it themselves.
